He is drinking loads of water, and his milk but hardly eating. Is there anything I can give him to help him get abit more? Cold soup to drink or anything? No idea about these things... thanks xXx Oh, he is 12 months.

I was going to suggest soup! Or how about something soft like scotch pancakes? Or crumpets or potato cakes? Comfort food!

Tried all his favourite foods, he just isn't eating. He did have a yogurt though... might try warmish soup.

How about cereal - mine often resort to cereal for all meals when they're poorly.

Juicy fruit & clear chiken soup with noodles work best for us. And pleny of milk.

Personally I am a believer in they know what they want and I tend to offer food and if it is refused so be it. He will get back on track when he is feeling better.
Remeber Milk is classed as a solid food so if he is still drinking that he is doing well.

Give him a cuddle

hi quootiepie, have just had the same thing with dd (7 months) due to illness and although she was not eating vast quantities of food anyway, having just started weaning a month+ ago, she had progressed to 3 meals.
anyway, she refused all food and just wanted bfing. i went with that for 4 days and today was the first day that shes decided she wanted something else.
agree with adath, as long as theyre getting the milk to nourish and keep them hydrated, theyll come back to the food in their own good time.
hope he feels better soon

As long as he is drinking water and milk, don't worry. Try him on his favourites once in a while, he will let you know when he is ready to eat again (jaffa cakes always seem popular in my house!) I was told by my HV that as long as they are dribbling and filling their nappies they are not dehydrated. Hope he feels better soon x

porridge with something sweet like honey stirred in to tempt him. Failimg that his milk and some offerings like dry cereal or plain biscuits to nibble on will keep him going for a while. If the appetite loss lasts for much longer speak to your doctor but it normally doesn't last long. Good luck!

Quootiepie · 04/04/2007 07:42

Thanks, he had porridge for dinner (always a winner) and he ate about half which was good, and is currently eating hot cross buns So, at least he is eating something now

I havnt read whole thread so I could be repeating this but my dd is now 2, she has had many bad colds / virus's and this always affects her appitite! So if your ds really really does not want to eat, dont force it, he could end up with a food phobia. (extreme food forcing would do that obv.) So in my experience as long as he is getting lots of milk and water then thats fine. I have spoken to my gp about this a couple of times in the past and that was what I was advised.
Good luck, hope he is feeling better x

Oops just read your last post. Good news!

Nbg · 04/04/2007 08:01

What about a fruit smoothie?

snipersmum · 04/04/2007 08:11

I really really agree with dionne - I went through this with DS1 and got so panicked I spent all day offereing him titbits, and as a result created a supremely fussy eater. With DS2, when he doens't want to eat, I don't force him, and he soon lets me know when he is hungry again.
