Another nappy rash thread - sorry!

DD has terrible nappy rash at the moment, very sore and bleeding. I use WWBs during the day with a fleece and paper liner and disposibles at night.

I am giving her bum out time, using Kamillosan and Metanium (not at the same time) and am going to try oatmeal under the hot tap tonight.

Has anyone (Flame? ) got any tips on how I can help DD?

Soak the liners in chamomile tea and put them on damp - its really soothing.

DS can't use fleece I have discovered - it gives him big crator sores

snugglebumnappies · 03/04/2007 14:30

Any idea what caused the rash? Is she teething or started weaning? Are you sure it's "plain old nappy rash". if not it may be an idea to get it checked out to make sure it isn't thrush which often causes the most horrible red and bleeding bottoms ;(

To help her I would try a silk liner, soaked in a chamomile solution, either chamomile tea or 30c chamomilla diluted in about 200ml water, also plenty of nappy off time if you can manage it.

Hope she feels better soon

Oops, chamomile cross posted with Flame!

what do you use as wipes? I make my own and have found that DDs bum is much better since I stopped putting anything other than chamomile tea in the solution (I used to put olive oil and a drop of tea tree/lavender)

she can't have shop bought wipes at all

LilRedWG · 03/04/2007 14:36

Wow - that was quick

I'm using water and cotton wool, as the usual wipes are too much for her at the moment.

I don't have any silk liners but will go and get some chamomile tea tonight and soak the fleece or paper ones in it. Which would work better - fleece or paper soaked?

Fleece, I have this horrible thought that a paper one soaked would be like having wet loo roll stuck to your bum!

LilRedWG · 03/04/2007 14:39

Meant to say that I saw her consultant today and he said it's not thrush and just to keep up what I've been doing - lots of nappy free time and the usual creams.

Will try the fleece ones then, although will probably need to put the paper one on top too as DD is suffering from impaction and the overflow is vile (and probably what's causing the rash)!

OP posts:
Flamesparrow · 03/04/2007 14:41

Its still soothing though

snugglebumnappies · 03/04/2007 14:43

Try the Chamomile straight on to her bottom via a wipe as jeangine suggeted or pop a couple of chamomile teabags in her bath along with the oatmeal.

LilRedWG · 03/04/2007 14:43

Thanks ladies. I'll give it a go. Poor little DD

make a solution of chamomile tea and allow to cool, then use that instead of plain water with your cotton wool to wipe

you can buy chamomile infused paper liners from one of the nappy sites (twinkle or babykind I think) - they are good

otherwsie I think silk liners soaked would be great

(I actually do a final rinse in chamomile tea and then allow them to dry as normal)

Thanks JeanGenie.
