DS is having his chicken pox Vaccination privately next week. Anyone whose baby has had it, did you have any side effects?

Men B is part of the vaccines now yes but has only been for a short while (DS is 17 months and had it at 8 and 26 weeks). Parents whose infants didn't have it can pay for it privately.

8 and 16 weeks, not 26!

My four year old just had the meningitis b vaccine done. Her arm was very sore for the rest of the day and she seemed tired and a bit grumpy. An ice cream cheered her up so I don't think it was too serious!

My eldest had chicken pox vaccine overseas as part of the standard schedule (it was a single dose vaccine), and my youngest had it done privately earlier this year in the U.K. Neither child had a reaction, and I paid £110 in total through a travel clinic.

My dd is 28 months I asked about the men b vaccine from the nurse and she said it's only given to children up to a year apparently.

BrawneLamia · 06/09/2017 22:20

Yes smelly but you can pay for it privately for older children. Their risk is lower but there is still a risk

FartnissEverbeans · 08/09/2017 20:23

ThomasinaCoverly DS has had two shots of the Men B vaccine now with no issues at all, not even a mild fever. We didn't bother with Calpol because he was fine. He got them separately though - I think in the U.K. it's usually rolled in with other vaccines and can cause more discomfort.

Watching this thread because DS is due his chickenpox vaccine in a few weeks

My dd just turned 14 months so I'm thinking of booking this. It's £180 where i am. My older dd had a terrible dose of pox

CottonSock · 08/09/2017 20:28

I paid for meng b for my eldest it was a similar price

Well DS had the jab this morning, all fine. Usual cry when the needle went in as expected but other than that we've had no issues. He's been exactly the same as normal. Will keep an eye on him more closely over the weekend just in case of fever or rash but the Doctor did say these weren't very common reactions.

Thanks for the advice on Men B: we'll get the first jab done at the beginning of half term just in case DD does have a reaction, but it sounds as though it should be OK.
