How do you trim your babies nails?

Me and DH have now both accidentally cut DDs finger when trying to cut her nails.

DH actually got a clean chunk out where as I managed to nick the skin and it hasn't come away, but I daren't touch it again!

I feel sick! I feel so guilty :(

How do you do it, without accidents? :(

Just peel them off!! They are soft enough!!

Watto1 · 04/09/2017 21:48

With baby clippers when they are asleep. Dh still feels guilty about the time he nipped DS's finger when he was a week old. Ds is now 6! It happens to the best of us.

Do it after her bath, when she's sleeping.

Polly99 · 04/09/2017 21:48

Nibble them during a feed.

alltalknobaby · 04/09/2017 21:53

File them. So much less distressing!

RhinoGirl · 04/09/2017 21:55

The clippers have gone in the bin! I don't think i'm brave enough to bite so will invest in a file tomorrow.

I use baby nail scissors by tweezerman. The only decent ones I found. Definitely do when their asleep too.

OutandIntoday · 04/09/2017 22:04

Baby clippers when they are asleep i the car seat. Great angle for toes- just take their socks off and they are none the wiser!

^^ this.

hiimmumma · 04/09/2017 22:06

When I was small I nibbled them when he was feeding.
He won't let me now though he is almost 1. I have to sit him in my lap with the TV on to keep him still and do 1 nail at a time. Takes a while.

Files never worked for me. I couldn't get the angle right and he wriggles too much.

I did clip the top of his finger once when he was about 3 months. It happens to the best of us I think! Still feel bad though.

My DH has never cut our children's nails - he's too frightened of hurting them!
I now use a curved nail scissors on my 3.5 year old and 8 month old which seems to be easiest for getting a close cut. DS seems to have super fast growing nails though!

Supermagicsmile · 04/09/2017 22:09

Peel! I do that with mine too! So much easier!

Dreams16 · 05/09/2017 10:43

Don't feel guilty I done the same with my DS when he was a few days old I burst into tears and refused to do them again.
My DH done them for ages and use to cut them when DS had fallen asleep he is now 5 months old and I cut them again with the baby clippers and then use nail file to smooth them he's not bothered now usually sits there watching either me or DH sorting his nails 😂

tattiehat · 05/09/2017 10:51

Nipper Clippers are great, I've been using them since DH nipped our DDs skin at a few weeks old (he refused to do them ever since!)

RhinoGirl · 05/09/2017 11:46

The first time she was awake and wriggling when DH did it, poor bugger! Last night she was asleep, opened her eyes and whimpered, went back to sleep after i picked her up! Still didnt make me feel any better despite her not screaming the house down like she did the first time :(

Chocoate buttons help keep them still.

You tube how do to a professional manicure. I found this helps. You hold the finger and use your thumb to push back the pad of their finger. It clears it from the clippers.

Knew that spur of the moment beauty therapy course would come in handy one day. Grin
