Hi there, I'm looking for some advice with regards to sleep training.

I'm wanting to teach my 14 month old DD to self soothe as she wakes constantly throughout the evening and night and will not go back to sleep without OH or me walking around holding her and patting her back.

I have been giving her a bottle at 8pm after her bath and putting her in the cot only once she is alseep ( I now know this is a bad idea 😶). She was waking once or twice through the night but since I gave birth to DS 7 weeks ago this has increased to about 4-5 times a night as DS wakes her when he cries for a feed ( DD is in her own room and DS is in with us). I think i'm starting to loose my mind as I only get about 3 hours of broken sleep a night.
I don't really know where to start with sleep training and was hoping for some detailed advice. It would be very much appreciated 😊

personally I would start putting her in her cot slightly awake, or just wake her a touch if she's fallen sleep before you put her in. Not massively just enough to open her eyes
I would also give her 5 minutes to soothe herself when she cries out. It's easy to run straight in because you want to get back to sleep but give her space to soothe herself.

Good luck kx

You can either go slow and steady and minimise crying, or you can opt for a crying method that may have quicker results.

Google Gradual Withdrawl and then you can determine if you want to adapt it so that it'll take a lot longer to work and minimise crying or if you want to speed up the process. There's also an excellent thread here from a few years back. This worked for DS1. DS2 was another story ;)

Thank you for your advice. I will be starting gradual withdrawal tomorrow evening, fingers crossed it works ☺
