My DS is 9 months, last time he was weighed was about 18lb, so might be about 20ish now.

I have no idea what to start with, I live with my mum so space is limited and my dp is against it as he had a sister who had then and they were a mess!

Help!!

Lok out for Flamesparrow she's an expert

Right - 4 main things to consider - drying time, slimness under clothes, cost and ease of use. Put those 4 in order of importance and then it is easier to work out what nappies would suit you best.

If you want to email bumfluffnappies at gmail dot com its normally easier (I have a habit of writing small essays )

I always recommend trying a few different types, as I am sure Flame will, as what suits you for daytime may not at night or for going out IYKWIM!

Hi there Koshka, because your DS is bigger you could go straight into size 2 nappies or size large and hopefully that will do you until potty training.
You have a big choice, so probably make a short list of your priorities such as cost, number of washes you want to do per week and fairly crucially your drying facilities.
If you want to wash fewer times per week, then you are likely to have quite a few nappies in the nappy bucket between washes - which means you will be likely to need a larger number of nappies - perhaps 18 if you want to wash every three days (5-6 per day).
If you don't have a drying area you will probably want something that will dry quickly on a clothes horse - you could go for a synthetic fibre nappy nature babies have a few microfibre nappies such as the poppered micro dizzy (which I think is very cute) or the micro diddy, which I think is nappi nippa or velcro. Tots bots do a microfibre nappy called a fluffle which is very soft, but also pretty bulky.
Pocket nappies also dry fast as you take the 'stuffing' out of them to dry, but do try them first rather than making a big investment, as they can be leaky on some older babies.
Cotton nappies such as Nappy Nation or Clwt-Twt or Kiwi baby Quickflip are reasonably fast to dry with the slowest fabric to dry generally being hemp and bamboo. Of course the more layers and thicker the nappy, the slower to dry.
Cotton nappies seem to be the cheapest at the moment, with microfibre and bamboo being a bit more expensive, in general.
For an older baby I would suggest that you may need to add boosters occasionally, to help absorb the bigger wees, without making the nappy too bulky you can use folded microfibre cleaning cloths or face flannels.
YOu will need three or four waterproof wraps/covers to go over the nappies - these dry very quickly so you shouldn't need too many.
Obviously, you will need something to store the dirty nappies - a large bin with a lockable lid from poundstretcher would do the job. You can put in a few drops of tea-tree oil and 'dry-pail', which means you don't need to use a soaking solution, just straight into the wash.
I would also suggest that you buy 'night nappies' specifically for night and use slimmer nappies for day. An older baby will need an absorbent nappy as they tend to sleep for longer and get wetter.
I like Minki Huggles or Stuffie nappies, but there are lots out there.
I hope that helps a bit.
YOu could have a look at my nappy review blog where lots of nappy users have written reviews for cloth nappies - to help new cloth users.
