How often does your toddler bump their heads?

Hi,
I have a 19 month old son. He walked early and now does not stop running, jumping and climbing. It seems like he is constantly falling over and bumping his head and he is covered in bruises and scrapes all over. Everywhere is baby proofed and I watch him, but I can't always be there. It usually happens when we are outside and he is tearing around. Is this normal? When will this phase end? Is he doing himself any damage?
Thanks all.

constantly. toddlers aren't careful.

If your toddler had no bumps and scrapes it would mean that you weren't allowing him to play. he should be less clumsy by the time he is 16 xxx

16?!? I'll be a nervous wreck by then! Already contemplating getting him a helmet to wear at all times! Thanks for your reply ummmmm.

Dp's ds was very top heavy and it was always his head that took the fall - turns out he needed glasses but this wasn't picked up on until reception.

Oh God, always. Currently sporting a bruise on her cheek in the exact same shape as the edge of my bedside table.

It's really hard and I wonder too if it's so much, but as Ummmm says, I mainly feel that it's normal learning and development and you can't wrap them up in cotton wool.

Totally normal. Although ds 22mo is a bit more careful with his head now but already has lifelong scars on both his knees Blush

Mine are constantly and are older now! Heads not as bad as they used to but haven't stopped running riot all hol and completely black and blue from the knees down!

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 29/08/2017 12:42

All the bloody time. Currently sporting two scraped knees, a bruised chin and scabby palms from chucking herself off the slide. She's 22 months old and I'm a wreck!

Every day! They're very bouncy though. DS takes tumbles that would leave me a wreck and just leaps up and bumbles off to the next fall

NoCapes · 29/08/2017 12:43

Oh god constantly, he currently has a bruise under his chin, one on his nose, a black eye, and countless bumps and scrapes on his knees and shins oh and a whopping bruise on 1 elbow ... And one on his bum and a bruise/scrape down his spine Blush
I offen wonder why social services haven't come knocking on my door yet

Summerdays2014 · 29/08/2017 13:02

Thanks for the reassurance everyone!

Mine is 17 months and only walked 2 or 3 months ago, now he tries to run, and walk over objects...and climb. I am a pro at filling in accident forms at nursery Wink

So I'm returning to this thread to say that yesterday DD slipped in the bath and chipped a front tooth (just as I was in the process of saying 'DD, if you don't sit down, I'm going to have to take you out of the bath), and took a mouthful of sand mixed with cold coffee in the playground (it's a long story).

MargaretCabbage · 30/08/2017 14:31

My DS is 2.5 and has rarely had a bump. My 11 month old has had at least one bruise on her face at a time for the past few months - she's a danger magnet, it's terrifying.

Summerdays2014 · 30/08/2017 16:17

Oh no rainatnight! Hope you're all ok.
Surprisingly we have managed to get through today without a single bump to the head (touch wood - there is still time!) and survived soft play and swimming without incident! A small miracle! He usually bangs his head when playing outside and it's been raining all day here.
