Aptamil for combination feeding

Hey!

I am currently exclusively breastfeeding except for one bottle of formula before bed

DD is 4 weeks and 4 days, she really struggles with wind and being constipated - she is also very irregular with her bowls.

The formula we give her is what we gave her at birth (first infant milk) (I was too poorly to feed for the first few feeds), the first infant milk says on it "if combination feeding or if baby is not being breastfed", I thought we could try the comfort brand as this says for management of constipation and colic, however it says on it "for bottlefed babies", because it says this does that mean I can't use this as she is fed both milks?

Thanks!

Well done for persisting, I personally found combination feeding hard, but necessary! I used Hipps Organic and we had no problems with bowels (learnt from the first who was also fed aptamil and had big problems with it). I'm hoping others will be along with their advice as it's not a one size fits all, good luck with everything!

Hello
Congrats on the baby 👶
I mix fed my 7 week old daughter from day 1.
She got infant milk at every other feed for 4 weeks and then gradually onto it and breast only at night, morning and sometimes during the day. There's no reason behind it really as to why I did it that way it just kind of happened on its own...
She suffers from really bad reflux and regurgitation and we were advised to give her comfort milk but that made it so bad for her and constipated her so we stopped it after 2 days and went back to infant milk.
Fast forward two weeks ago she had a really bad couple of colicky nights, reflux, wind, being sick ... the lot... and we saw a doctor about that and were advised to use hungry milk in combination with infant to help solidify the feed so she could keep it down a little bit longer . So we've been doing that for over a week and it's been better.. also we were told to give her water every now and then to help move bowels in case she gets constipated and she's been much happier since.. I stopped BF last week. It's been a massive trial and error for us.
Hope this all makes sense x

Comfort milk is thicker and therefore more likely to cause constipation.

When you say colic what do you mean?
When you say constipation what do you mean? Babies have to learn to poo and this can be difficult for them.

No you can give any milk with combination feeding. By 4 weeks my DD was exclusively FF and I was told that changing formula type was unlikely to make any difference (no constipation, she just had awful colic), so I doubt 1 bottle a day would make any difference.

I suspect it has to do with restrictions on the marketing of first milks. They aren't meant to be marketed as breastmilk replacements, so the language is slightly different on the tin basically. I suspect they just can't market bottle feeding in the same way on the first milk and that's the difference. Anyway, no it shouldn't make any difference either way.
