How do I take baby's purees out with me

Tomorrow my whole family are going to the beach, I've just packed my changing bag so it's ready and then suddenly went into a panic because I don't know how to carry the purée. I haven't got a cooler bag. The purée is carrot and is in the freezer, I normally take out in the morning and put it in the fridge ready for lunch time (if it isn't defrosted enough I just chuck it in the microwave for a minute and let it cool). We'll be leaving at 11 ish so should I leave it in the freezer until then and let it defrost whilst we're out or do I defrost before we leave? Do I just put it in the changing bag and just take it out to feed him? This is my first big day out since he's been on purees, normally I make sure I'm home before 1 o'clock (when he has his food). Can anyone help?

Can you get to a shop and get Ella's pouches or similar. Less faff maybe.

B1rdinthebush · 27/08/2017 19:33

Take it out of the freezer when you leave and it'll be defrosted ready for lunchtime. It won't go bad.

Either do as an PP has said and take it out of the freezer just before you leave or, as weaning must be pretty new if you are just on carrot, just skip
the meal & give some extra milk. Alternatively, if you have a banana or avocado at home, take one of those with you & mush it up whilst you're out. Or just give the baby a bit of crust or other bit of your food to suck on.

Loraline · 27/08/2017 19:57

When you have a small baby everything yiu read goes on about the safety of reheating frozen food well to kill germs etc. It's normal to have questions and be unsure and not something to be snarked at for - especially since it's in this forum and not AIBU.

It'll be fine to defrost in your bag. Or heat it before you go and wrap the pot in tin foil to keep warm if you prefer.

But for the future, honestly, this is what ready made pouches are brilliant for. Even if you want to give homemade the odd pouch is a lifesaver for you and fine for baby.

Loraline · 27/08/2017 19:58

Oh yeah banana or avocado mush are brilliant when out

harleysmammy · 27/08/2017 19:58

Dermot0Logical I'm sorry, I didn't realise how much of a silly question it was. I'm a ftm and I didn't know if it had to be in a cooler bag or anything. Thank you anyway everyone

Op please ignore Dermot. So long as theres no meat in it it wont go off or give the little one a poorly tummy if not in the fridge for a few hours. You could always wrap in foil and pop in a bag with a cold bottle of water if youre concerned

TittyGolightly · 27/08/2017 20:09

And I was told BLW was the complicated option!

OsMalleytheCat · 27/08/2017 20:13

I found either a combo of mashed banana and avocado, a ready made pouch or asking in a pub for them to microwave the pot the easiest way to manage
Hth op - ignore the negativity of others Hmm who presumably were never first time parents!!

Mellington · 27/08/2017 20:42

Ella's kitchen pouch, cafes can be difficult about warming baby feed so buying a pouch as much easier and can be squirted straight onto a spoon, you seem to be able to buy them anywhere these days.

DermotOLogical · 27/08/2017 21:02

I'm a first time mum but I have the sense to realise a carrot isn't going to go off in a few hours.

MapMyMum · 27/08/2017 23:17

How lovely for you Dermot, shame youre also not a decent person who can afford a simple and polite response to someone who wanted some advise without the need to call her stupid

harleysmammy · 28/08/2017 00:07

I didn't think the carrots would go off I just didn't know if I should put it in a cooler bag or something especially as it is supposed to be boiling where I live tomorrow. I just wanted to make sure that's all.

Thanks to everyone else xx

It's a perfectly sensible question op. I would think about a jar or pouch next time, even easier than the defrost.

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 28/08/2017 00:14

For future reference, pouches are bloody brilliant because they're much more lightweight than glass jars but don't need a fridge. Mine is 2 now and we still keep a few handy for ease of feeding him while out occasionally.

Caterina99 · 28/08/2017 14:54

OP I feel your pain. I made all my own food for DS and as a result he wouldn't touch the pouches! Felt really stupid when I was out with my babygroup friends and they produced pouches and I had to pull out my Tupperware box. However as a result he moved on to real solids v quickly and then I could just give him a bit of my meal whilst they were still using the pouches (I'm in the US and blw is regarded as quite 'out there')

As pp have said, it'll be fine to just defrost in your bag. To be honest though if you've just started out weaning your DS prob won't care if he doesn't have it, so you could just skip it for the day, as long as he has his milk as normal. Or a mashed banana is a good idea from above too

DC2 will definitely be eating pouches. Not making that mistake twice!

Hugepeppapigfan · 28/08/2017 14:58

Ella does a carrot pouch!

TittyGolightly · 28/08/2017 15:15

Having spent 3 weeks despairing at the state of food in US supermarkets this summer I'm not at all surprised!
