Too loud for newborn?

I took my two year old and 15 day old to a parade today. Newborn was in the pram but needed fed so I was sat ion the kerb feeding him covering his ear (should really have left since I felt the need to cover his ear). Anyway, whilst sitting the drum part of the parade - a load of snare drums - stopped right at us and the drums were level with his little ears (since I was sat on kerb). They stopped there so I got up as quick as I could but had to faff to get baby off he breast, manage two year old and navigate lots of people sitting around us. I am now beside myself that I have done serious damage. I am an anxious parent by nature and not sure if this is my anxiety catastrophising or if I have done serious damage to my little baby.

Feel so stupid for not thinking about this in advance. Sad

Can anyone offer Reassurance or advice as to what I should do now to mitigate damage (if that's possible)? Thanks so much xx

I'm sure you haven't done any damage- surely the baby would have come off the breast and started crying if he had been in any discomfort from the noise?

That's what I'm hoping. He didn't cry at all even with all the moving around x

He's fine. Inner ear damage is very painful so he'd have let you know if it had done him any harm.

This reminds me of a story I look back on and cringe/laugh about.

As I was leaving hospital with my newborn pfb, an ambulance pulled up in the pick up/drop off zone while I was waiting for dh to bring the car round. It sat their with sirens blaring and didn't turn them off even though it had stopped.

My day 3 post birth hormones had kicked in and I was fuming at the driver! How dare the he threaten my poor newborn's hearing. I burst into tears and was inconsolable by the time dh turned up. Blush

Thanks ladies. aurora I hadn't thought to compare it to a siren. That really helps me a lot xx

I had the same worry yesterday. My baby is 15 weeks I was walking in the parade with my daughter so my parents had the baby. My mum says when the band walked past with the drums she was hysterical and she had to cover her ears. Like you I'm anxious so was worried about her hearing being damaged but she's her normal happy self and reacting the same way as usual to noises. Try not to worry xx

ThAnks cantthink. My lb has been a bit unsettled today but pretty sure it's wind (pulling legs up etc). Have HV tomorrow so hoping she will also tell me I'm nuts! I'll check back in and let you know what she says xx

You won't have done any harm. Babies are remarkably resilient. Some of ours used to go to an air show when they were tiny - a harrier taking off is much louder than any drum.

Aww m33r my DD was terrible with wind until I discovered Dentinox drops it's so hard. I'm sure he'll be fine hopefully the HV reassures you. I wonder if we were at the same parade. If it was it was pretty loud. We were walking being the band the full time I went to bed last night with the noise of the drums still playing in my headGrin
