Time out/time in?

For a 2 year old. I've seen some people say they wouldn't do time out with this age and do a 'time in' instead. Why not? And what does your 'time in' involve?

Have a 2 year old who routinely gets furious just before dinner time and trying to work out how to diffuse it.

It's a Sarah ockwell smith gentle discipline thing. I'm fairly attachment parenty but am skeptical about this one. I reserve it for when my toddler hurts his sister but as I'm comforting her at the time I find it hard to time in with him. So it's a time out really. He's 3 though. I'm not sure he would have understood the concept much earlier.

Just before dinner time they may be getting irritable due to low blood sugar. I bung mine a carrot or something that's not too filling but takes a while to eat while he's waiting for me to finish cooking dinner.
