Hello!

My DH has a nut allergy (not peanuts). I'm looking for advice on how I should handle this with DS to see if he also has this/introducing nuts. He is only 4weeks so it won't he for a while yet.

I've tried looking it up but not getting anywhere I'm also not sure who I would need to speak to regarding it.

I don't actually like nuts or peanuts so didn't eat any during pregnancy

Thank you

You would probably be best posting this in the allergy section in health for more recent advice from others in the same situation.
My dd has a life threatening peanut allergy and various other milder allergies. She carries epipens. How serious is your dh's allergy to nuts?
I am not quite sure on the newest medical advice so to speak. Our dd has been under a peadiatrician at the allergy clinic in our local hospital since her first bad reaction at about 3 years old (15years now) and they have done various skin prick tests to check foods through out the years.
However I know foods usually cause a reaction on the second exposure to eating. The first triggers the body to the food and so the second time you usually have the reaction so to speak. This has always confused me with regards to skin prick testing on something never eaten.
However they have done skin prick tests on dd regarding other nuts recently which some have been low enough that they have told me to try her eating eg nutella at home on a corner of bread. Another thought for us is testing it sat outside the A and E department Grin Not been brave enough to try her yet! Fortunately for us we have epipens at hand.
I would firstly speak to your doctor for their advice discuss dh and go from there.

Speak to your hv or gp at your 8 week check. it's not th same but my husbands family have a genetic dodgy thyroid. Gp explain that I should look out for symptoms but they should present mid teens.
Gp will know how to handle, whether you can eat nuts while bf and how to refer for tests if that's necessary.
