9 month old teeth grinding

My son who is 9 months old is going through a phase of teeth grinding/rubbing which to me is like nails down a chalkboard and makes me feel incredibly sick when he does it.

Is there any way to stop him doing it? I've tried teething powders and teething rings he can chew on but he just puts it down and carries on

Mine does this, as did her older brother at the same age. I just put ear plugs in as it makes me feel sick to hear it!

My oldest stopped once the novelty of teeth wore off but then he discovered the joys of gagging himself and retching.

Sorry, not much help on how to stop it as I assume it's a phase and they just get over it!

Well it's good to know I'm not the only one out there with babies who do it, everyone looks at me like I'm mad when I tell them.

I really hope he does get over it, he's got four top teeth but only two bottom ones so I'm presuming he's also due for some more bottom teeth shortly

Babies are weird and do weird things! But seriously, I remember having a conversation with friends and all the kids were doing it. We didn't have any solution but someone here might.

I'm sure they will grow out of it. Maybe when he gets more teeth the novelty will have worn off Grin

Mine did it for a while when he was teething, I just ignored it completely and luckily the novelty wore off soon.

He might like to try some crunchy food to gnaw on?

My girl did this around 11 months, soon stopped thank goodness

We had exactly as stalkingfred says! The grinding set my own teeth on edge and worse our involuntary reaction spurred her on, it's making me cringe all other again just thinking about it. Our joy of her growing out of it was short lived as it was replaced with the "gagging is fun" routine. She kept sticking her fingers right down her throat (loved to do this while I was driving) & in her push chair out & about, made dreadful noises! The only thing that "worked" was distraction, often involving me doing a silly dance (worth it to stop that noise!), but ultimately the only "cure" is they grow out of it. She's now 18 months and I can safely say she no longer does those horrible things, no she's found something else to torture me with but I'll wait & see if you post in about 8 month's time to see if yours do the same, never had any of this with dd1!

My DD was the same and I got the total nails on chalkboard feeling.

She had bazillions of teething rings etc and it didn't make any difference. I think it's just the novelty. She stopped of her own accord but truthfully, I'd say there was about two months of it, on and off.

Oh dear, we've had two weeks on and off of it and some days I just have to give him to his dad and go sit upstairs for a bit because it gets so loud and the louder it is the worse I've felt. I might just give him a baby biscuit to crunch on when it gets too much!

I can cope with gagging as he's been through a tiny phase of that already by shoving at least three finger in his mouth at once constantly.

Just waiting for him to start with something else that I don't enjoy like head banging on the cot. Its bad enough he bangs his hands on the wall next to his cot like a drum
