Why are they so thin? Brought one for my 3-yr-old and it's only 4 tog?

Children have less surface area than adults and so overheat quite easily, which can be dangerous.

A 4 tog quilt is fine for the summer but you'll need to get at least a 10.5 tog for winter or your DC will feel the cold.

Thanks both Smile

It's because the child fills more of a smaller bed than an adult does a double bed - so with more body (radiator) to fabric ratio it heats up more and quicker - imagine how much quicker you'd heat up if you wrapped your duvet around you like a sleeping bag

We've had out 4.5 tog on our bed since last year and it's still on just now. 4.5 tog is the maximum for using on a cot bed/ toddler bed whereas you could go up to a 10.5 tog if it's used on a single bed. Both my kids (age 10 and 13) are using 4.5 tog at the moment too. We are in Scotland and still use the fans at night on occasion too

My two (5 and 7) use a 1 tog all year round, and just a sheet if it is very hot. Their choice, they have 4.5 tog duvets but find them too warm! Our heating goes off overnight in winter so we don't live in a hot house or anything, they're just hot kids!
