WBB/Bambineo's soaked on 3 month old

I've got a mixture of the old wambamboos and some pistachio bambineos. After 2 hours (I try to change that often) on my 15 week old ds, they are absolutely soaked through. This is with the booster plus fleece liner. Not using at night partly because of this (sticking to disposables for now, and also coz the tots fleece wrap is too small once everything is on) but also concerned that he is just getting too wet. Surely i don't have to double boost at this point, and I'm finding the bulkiness a bit of a problem already as I have lots of clothes from my other ds born the same time of year.

I really like them (although wish I could get them soft again, I think I used too much detergent & they're all crusty) but would like to establish if they're meant to get this wet and if not, what I should do. Cos I'm changing every 2 hours, don't like to think of trying to go on a long car journey or anything when i can't do that!

That really doesn't seem right

Bamboo is one of the most absorbant materials out there. Are you folding the booster in half and sticking it over his bits?

(Assuming they have been washed several times/no conditioner).

Is it maybe the excess detergent causing it??
What other cloth nappies have you tried? Maybe he is just a mega wetter. We double boost here during the day.

I wasn't folding it in half no, I'll try that!
Have a MEO, which seems ok although I rarely use it. And quite a few fluffles. I guess he is a mega wetter, although I never noticed with disposables which I used for first 8 weeks.
I washed them twice before using them, have never used conditioner with them.

Tried with booster in half, after 2.5 hours still completely soaked. I didn't think excess detergent reduced absorbency?

Hi

Horsemadgal mentioned detergent buildup. It is so easy to use too much and it builds up in your nappies and makes them much less absorbent. I rinse my nappies before washing, use very little detergent, rinse my nappies twice after washing and there is still quite a lot of detergent coming out in second rinse.

So try an extra rinse for a while after washing and that may help.

Flamesparrow · 01/04/2007 20:18

It normally takes 3 or so washes to make them completely sorted anyway, plsu if there is extra detergent. I agree with some extra rinses (with some white vinegar) and go from there

Righto, I'll try that, did a wash yesterday with no detergent at all (plus vinegar) and they're a little better so I'll stick them in with extra rinse again tomorrow. Wasn't around to check if lots of suds in the machine unfortunately. many thanks!

Bambo won't reach maximum absorbancy till about 15 washes, I agree with the advice given about detergent residue and also that you LO may just be a heavy wetter, DS2 is 3 weeks old and soaks a nappy in two hours, DD was never like that so I was very surprised, but it's just one of those things!

Didn't realise about the 15 washes, I don't think I've done anywhere near that yet. Happy to change every 2 hours, he sleeps 12 hours a night anyway so no night changes to worry about.
