Teaching table manners

DS is 6 and I've been trying to work on his table manners. It feels like dinner is turning into a battle and we're both getting stressed. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations? Or possibly books that would help?

No advice I'm afraid, but following with interest as my 6yo DS is struggling with this too.

Personally, I think teaching table manners, (which are HUGELY important), should be approached like any other topic in need of discipline. Lead by example, tell him the rules, and if he doesn't follow these rules then he must be made to face the consequences. No tv, no friends coming over, whatever. Proper behaviour, no matter what it is, can not be negotiable. I have 2 children who are both lovely young adults now, so I understand how this is.

Lead by example.
Meals together and relax. Try and avoid nagging. The more you push the more he will push back. Lots of positive praise and ignore what you deem unacceptable manners.
Also ask him why he does x,y and z. My friends child has difficulty eating and breathing with mouth closed.

Sometimes my younger one pushes back because he knows it annoys me. Sometimes he likes winding me up. Just like the older siblings wind each other up.
