Nappy disposal systems. Waste of money or handy?

The tommy tippy nappy bin!!

What are your views on it, I'm expecting DC3 and I never used one with my other two so I wondered if it was worth it, not nice going out after every nappy change to put it in the outside bin.
Also, does it smell even a little at all?

Or am I better off saving my money and taking the old fashioned trip to the outside bin lol

They do really start to smell. I had one for dd2 and it lived on the balcony , especially once she started eating solids.

NewYorkthisXmas · 20/08/2017 11:05

Complete waste of money.

Nappy bags are much cheaper. Just keep a bin with a good lid in babys room.

TipBoov · 20/08/2017 11:05

They are a waste of money. They still smell, you just get noseblind!

Waste of money unless your outside bin is very far away.

BluePheasant · 20/08/2017 11:07

Never had one but everyone I know who has says they stopped bothering with it after a few weeks. Just another gimmick you don't need!

StepAwayFromCake · 20/08/2017 11:09

Putrid. Truly putrid.

The only o e I have ever experienced that was even vaguely tolerable was in a friend's house, and she said she emptied it every day. Which rather negates the point of it! She also kept a sachet of pong-absorbing charcoal in the bottom (I think they're designed to be kept in sweaty trainers).

We single-bagged our nappies in unscented bags and put them in the kitchen bin which went out into the outdoor bin once a day. Serious St makers, like a post-curry or tummy bug poo, went straight to the outdoor bin.

parmavioletmartini · 20/08/2017 11:11

I love mine. Have a large ish house. So would have to take nappy and baby downstairs, through the house and down to the bottom of the garden where we keep the bins.

Before they start eating solids no smell at all. As long as they are emptied regularly mine has no smell once the lid is shut.

For me it is one of my must have items.

Fozzleyplum · 20/08/2017 11:11

Complete waste of money because they stink! Get bags from the pound shop and put the rubbish out daily. Double bag any poonami nappies.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/08/2017 11:12

We used one as we lived on a first floor flat when ds was little. Didn't smell.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/08/2017 11:13

No way could we have just used nappy bags, the whole flat would've stank!

We have a small normal bin in our bathroom. We don't use nappy bags but we do empty it every day. It means just one daily trip to the outside bin and no smell.

Farfromtheusual · 20/08/2017 11:42

I have an angelcare one, it does stink to be fair however it's obviously got a lot worse once he started solids. The problem is the bag isn't scented.

Ours is in DS's bedroom so doesn't really fill up as quick now only 2 nappies max a day go in there now. Was a life saver in the night when he was a newborn though and can't say I noticed the smell then.

The refill cassettes can be expensive but I found Amazon the cheapest and good if you have prime and run out, and I think I even got the bin itself for only 5 quid or something from there.

SellFridges · 20/08/2017 11:47

We have one and really like it. However, we only very recently got wheels bins so putting them straight outdoors was never an option for us.

Ammelou · 20/08/2017 11:50

It depends on whether or not you can put nappies in your 'normal' bin. We have a separate nappy collection round here and have to put nappies in yellow sacks. So we keep the tommee tippee bin in the downstairs loo as we would need a separate nappy bin anyway! The wrap action does stop the smell more than a normal bin would.

user1493413286 · 20/08/2017 11:56

I love mine; when we ran out of cartridges I was putting nappies in nappy bags in it and noticed it smelt but when using the cartridges no smell at all.

welshweasel · 20/08/2017 12:03

We have two TT ones, one in our bedroom and one in the utility room. DS is 18 months old and honestly neither of them smell in the slightest. We empty them once a week before the bins go out.

HeartStrings · 20/08/2017 13:28

So kind of mixed reviews here lol
My outdoor bin isn't far away but I might just put them in the indoor bin as it's emptied daily anyway.
Majority of you say they still smell which is what I want to avoid but I guess it's inevitable really.
Might just leave it then and save my money, newborn poos don't tend to smell much anyway but I know once they get older and eat solids they pong! Teething nappies are the worst! They can go straight outdoors!!

Oh god yes teething nappies are horrific, had my fair share of those this week 🤢
