Which are the best nappies??

We're currently using Pampers but we seem to be going through them like wildfire. No sooner are we changing her then having to change her again, sometimes feels like she's completely wet through after only doing a couple of wees!

Hi there,

This discussion is quite old and some the recommendations are out of date. For the latest advice and reviews, read our round up of the best nappies, tried and tested by Mumsnet users.

Hope that helps,

Aren't nappies supposed to be changed every wee anyway? If not she'll get horrible nappy rash!

demirose87 · 16/08/2017 14:10

Mamia nappies from Aldi and Asda Little Angels are both good. I've never understood the fuss about Pampers x

I second mamia nappies. Best ones I've used for both my girls.

Aldi. Pampers gave my ds a sore looking rash aldi nappies have been great.

You don't need to change nappies after every wee, it's roughly every three hours but obviously more often if needed and for very young babies it's more often as they tend to poo more.

Sainsburys and man is. I don't rate pampers at all.

JustMeeAgain · 16/08/2017 14:13

Mamia* not man is

I used pampers for my first 2 DC, but switched to Lidl's for DC3. They are fab and a fraction of the cost.

I found most of the own brand nappies all worked really well, Pampers were rubbish, and I loved Huggies when mine were babies but they don't sell them anymore.

Berrybakecake1 · 16/08/2017 14:17

Have you fried the plus ones e.g. 4+ 5+ for extra absorbancy?
Mamia ones gave dd a horrible rash that took 2 weeks to get rid off. Never had a rash with pampers. Used them for ds was well never had an issue. We use the papers baby dry. Have used the premium ones as well when she was tiny.

koalab · 16/08/2017 14:20

I've tried most and found that pampers are the best for us. But I think it totally depends on the baby. Asda and mamia have both been poor fits for my little chubster and Asda also gives her a rash. Sainsburys weren't too bad. Unfortunately I think you will have to try a few. No need to change after every wee though, just regularly. They are mostly designed to hold 12 hrs of wee so you don't need to change through the night. I use sudocrem for extra protection

Aldi mamia. I'll admit I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to what I buy, I like to buy the more expensive so I bought pampers thinking they were the oldest and the best. They were literally thinner than a tissue and just felt terrible quality, I thought it might just be the batch or the type so I bought another box and they were still terrible. I bought mamia ones actually when my bottle leaked and ruined the nappies in the bag so had to run to get some quickly, they're so much thicker and feel so much better quality!! 98 for £4.99 is amazing for what they are!

harleysmammy · 16/08/2017 14:23

Also, my sons 4 months old and has never had a rash or nappy rash:)

MelinaMercury · 16/08/2017 14:25

Depends on the babies skin and shape in my experience as a parent and a nursery worker, what works for one night be completely different for another.

Both of mine had bad reactions to Pampers and Asda nappies but were fine with Huggies, Boots and Aldi brand.

Mamab90 · 16/08/2017 14:48

We tried Sainsburys and Boots, they were both no good then changed to Pampers. I'll have a shop about and see what's best for her. Also are these article true about the Mamia and Little Angels ones being found with shards of metal in them?? That's what put me off trying either of the 2 brands

I actually found that the Asda little angels ones are the best to me, because of the quality of the dry sheet - it is really really dry and cottony even when they are quite full, like after a full nights sleep. They also donate to Tommys so I have a little extra incentive to buy them.

Pampers fit great but I find they feel quite wet even when they are not very full. My DD is 2 in a couple of weeks and she has only ever had 1 single day of nappy rash, during a period of illness. However I do change her quite often as I hate seeing full nappies!

Mamab90 · 23/08/2017 17:09

update

Started using the Mamia nappies and my goodness what a difference! We're not using half as many as we were with Pampers!

Thank you for the advice ladies x
