What do you do with your almost-toddler?

Just that really - DD is 10mo and crawling but not walking yet. She's getting bored with all her usual toys and aside from going out and about (which we do at least once but usually twice a day) I was hoping for some play ideas/inspiration? She loves her jolly jumper, building dens, tunnels etc with cushions, so as active as possible please!

I rotate toys put some away and get some more out

Paddling pool with balls and soft toys hidden in goes down well

then I spend a lot of time preventing him climb up things

Pull him out of the flowerbeds. Pull him out of the dishwasher. Pull him out of the cat's bowl. Etc.

He quite likes going to the supermarket and sitting in the trolley. Chasing balls round the garden (with regular breaks for the flower bed). Playing peepo behind the curtains. Me chasing him on all fours makes him laugh a lot. Pulling everything out of the washing basket. Today he is mostly getting stuck under beds and tables which is v boring for all concerned!

Have you tried treasure baskets? Basically random items in a basket for them to discover (not toys), give it a google for ideas. Also I rotate toys every day as the above poster does so a smaller selection but regularly changing, and I put some in random locations for him to find, like on the toy chest, behind the chair etc. My 10month old loves lift the flap books too, and will often sit 'reading' them by himself (when he's not trying to destroy the house or electrocute himself...).

My 11m DS just needs to change spaces every now and again. He gets very angsty if we try to stay in the front room for too long, no matter what we try to play with. We rotate between the front room, garden, spare room (aka laundry mess room) and DS1's bedroom. I have a few books and toys and things he likes in each room so he's happy while I potter about and do jobs. If I have to get some work done I take the iPad with me as we float about the house.

Non toxic paint and paper in the garden. I bought a roll of lining paper usually used for walls for about £3 from a diy shop. Just tear a huge piece off and pop my 9month old on it in her nappy with the paint. She loves it! (crawling through it splashing it throwing it round etc)
Messy but it keeps her entertained for ages

Do you have a garden? My little one loves his water table so he has a splash around with that with some toys, or you could use a paddling pool. He also loves his cosy coupe car so I push him around in that! I think they just need a change of scenery throughout the day.

Great ideas, thanks everyone! It's winter here at the moment but summer isn't too far away really so I'll get the garden organised with paint, water table etc. Really appreciate your ideas Smile
