Just that really....

I want to go back to uni to do an MSc that includes work placements. Over two years I will be on placement up to 10 weeks at a time that may involve me staying away mon-fri. Assuming I started in 2018 I'd have a 5 and 6 year old. My DH is great but can't work too flexibly.. childcare is going to be a nightmare. I worry I'll let my dd down on her first year of school by not being there for her after school. Childminders are fine but they won't give my kids the individual time to practice reading etc that I would after school. So if I do the course am I sacrificing my kids for 2 years? I could wait until 2019 which seems an awfully long way away and would still have same issues.. whenever I am away for a night or two (rarely), on my return my kids are so cross with me for leaving them even though they've had fun. It makes me worry I'm being selfish and should wait as I've been a sahm since my first was born.
But when are they old enough? And how will I manage study etc when they are at home?

There is never an ideal time

If you want to do it, figure out what you will need and see if you and your DH can agree to the commitment

For your DC, at least they are of an age they will be able to FaceTime etc

You are 100% not sacrificing them or being selfish. Good luck!

Thanks! I know they will be fine and perfectly safe and happy.

Have you made your decision on when to start yet?

catsatonthemat · 16/08/2017 07:29

No not yet. I need to look into the financial side of it.
