WTF do I buy 4yo ds for his birthday when he has too much stuff already?

Honesty, my house is full to the brim of toys. I need to massively declutter. I cannot think of anything to get him for his bday. He doesn't even need many clothes as have a lot of stuff from ds1 which is in good condition. We have a bazillion books. I'm at a loss. All he has ever been into is brio trains- he would honestly play with them all day long and had been like this since he was 1.

Any ideas??

A day out at Thomas land with a special souvenir Thomas toy?

longestlurkerever · 14/08/2017 19:58

Some years they don't need much and I just get them new pens and playdoh etc and then an outing somewhere. But I can normally think of a garden toy they'd like - paddling pool, inflatable dinghy, trampoline, sandpit, super soakers etc. Their birthdays are earlier in the summer though. Dressing up clothes?

An annual pass somewhere like a local farm, zoo or soft play? Wrap up with a small, related token gift.

A baking kit? New bowl, wooden spoon, loads of sprinkles / cake mix kits of his favourite characters and an apron?

A Kidizoom-type camera?

Oh dressing up is a good idea he'd like that. Also annual pass would be good. Ds1 who is 6 would actually love the baking idea.

A few small bits to unwrap and a lovely day out will be great at age 4. As they get older their stuff gets smaller and more expensive so this won't last forever!

JoyceDivision · 14/08/2017 20:20

the stacking brisge supports for brio! They are ace... ds still has his brio!

Yika · 14/08/2017 20:26

Well he needs something to unwrap. Maybe something quite traditional that has years of value in it like a magnifying glass, torch, plain lego, binoculars, yoyo, bug viewer, kite, sleeping bag OR something short lived and throwaway or consumable like a cardboard castle to draw on, pavement chalks etc.

A day out and then disposable craft stuff - playdoh, colouring book, outdoor chalks if you have a patio.
