Father requesting DNA test

BrollyDolly · 14/08/2017 12:13

Apologies if there is a thread already on this.
My baby was born in July and the father made it clear from when I found out about the pregnancy he wasn't interested and ended our relationship. Have had no contact since and have registered the birth without him on it. I made it clear I would not chase him for money as I'm financially stable myself and would rather just completely cut ties.

Now been receiving shitty messages saying that the baby is a mistake and he doesn't want to know but insisting he wants a DNA test done. Firstly I need to know do I insist he pays for this? I have asked him why this needs to be done if he's not interested and no reply.
And also recommendations on how to go about getting a DNA test done.

Thank you

He pays. has to be done via a proper company with photo ID etc. and when it shows he is the father hit him for support via the CMS. If you don't need the cash keep it and give to your child when they turn 18.

Mummahasbanter · 14/08/2017 12:20

I had this with my ex on our second child didn't care about the first but the second baby looked like me not him so he went down the route of saying it wasn't his

I paid for the DNA test myself although with your story you should make him cough it up. It is simple and this way if he does it there is no come back on saying it's fake or whatever excuse he will try to convince himself he has no responsibility it doesn't take long to come back and confirm either

If he's not financially supporting you agree to it but make sure he pays don't lose out on the money I lost £300 to prove my son was his all along

Hope this helps x

If he isn't interested in the child then it's really none of his business so tell him to piss off, especially if you aren't going to go through the CSA for child support. He has no right to insist on a DNA test if he wants nothing to do with the child.

SenatorBunghole · 14/08/2017 17:49

As there's no CSA involvement, he can't make you do it without a court order. You're free to allow one without that, but personally I'd only do so on the condition he paid for it.

youarenotkiddingme · 14/08/2017 18:23

I'd go through the csa now.

That way he can get his DNA test and you can have a reserve of money for your child if you don't need it day to day.

Thank you for all of your responses :)

So are you not claiming any form of child benefit or tax credits?

If you are, then the taxpayer is funding the upbringing of your child and you have a responsibility to both your child and to wider society to do everything you can to ensure that the father pays towards the upkeep of his child.

If you are not in receipt of these benefits, then you are of course welcome to do as you please wrt the DNA test.

BrollyDolly · 16/08/2017 13:11

Hi @WideHorizon

I am not entitled to any benefits as I earn too much money. I own my own house and am using savings while I'm on leave to live on until I return to work.

Tell him sure he can have his test and can he contact the csa to arrange it. You'll wait for the letter.

He'll either cough up if the baby is his or slink off.

My guess is he'll slink off.
