I've literally just had the shock of my life when I turned around in the shower and found this in my shower. I've lost my hair a lot since giving birth 3 and a bit months ago to the point where I have to hoover at least twice a day because it falls off me but it's never been this bad. I hadn't touched my hair, it was wet but I'd only been in there less than 5 minutes and hadn't even taken it out of a pony. It had been down all day so I just hopped in the shower like it was, hadn't run my hands through, not washed it etc. I know post partum hair loss is normal but surely not this much? Should I be worried? Usually my hair is so thick I can never get it into a pony tail as no bobble or scrunchie is big enough but I've just put it in a pony with a dolls hair band for the first time ever. Please can someone advise me on what I should do and if this is normal x

Mine did exactly the same. I was literally moulting. Then it grew back and all round my hair line it was spikey and annoying.

2 years later and it's a distant memory. Try not to panic yet!

That's an awful lot to lose in one go, even if your hair is very thick. You need to pop down to the GP and get checked out I think - for your peace of mind if nothing else. Anemia can cause hair loss as can some thyroid problems.

I am anaemic but I didn't know that could be the reason, thank you:) x

Hiya op.
Hairdresser for 20 years here with a lot of personal experience of hair loss also.

It's natural to lose hair after having a baby however if a client showed me that I would be saying go get some bloods done at the Drs and check your vitamin and mineral levels.
Lack of iron and vitamin d can cause sudden loss like that.
I notice you say you are anaemic and if you haven't already I would recommend taking a bumper supplement for a while to help boost things.
When I had emergency surgery to remove my entire thyroid due to all my hormone levels being wrong I lost a lot of hair.
I take a multi vitamin,a vitamin c,a vitamin d,vitamin b complex, and a cid liver oil capsule every day alongside my hormone meds and my hair have settled down and are back to normal.

Just remember it's only temporary but do get some bloods done and extra vitamins in you

It isn't just anaemia which causes hair loss. It is low ferritin, which is your iron store rather than your day to day iron level

So you can have haemaglobin levels within the normal levels but still have very low ferritin

It's worth asking your GP to do some blood tests and including ferritin levels

Start taking liquid iron supplements straight away. Mine started shedding at 5 months after I had foolishly rejoiced because I thought I had got away with it. I firmly believe it was because I hadn't been eating properly and stopped taking my supplements. After I started taking them again it has really slowed down

nmechge1 · 13/08/2017 21:25

I am on iron tablets and I do take vit d supplements because my mother has ms and I was told to take it just to help prevent any risk I have of inheriting it (I don't know if this actually helps but there's no harm I figured). I think I'll phone the doctors tomorrow, I didn't know if it was just post partum x
