Terry nappies

Any mums out there still using terry squares ? I've just switched to them from disposables in an effort to save money so now have a 21mth old and a 4yo in them but still struggle with them.

Anyone got any tips ? different folds, pins or nippas ? How to stop toddlers wriggling etc ;-)

Thanks :-)

I used these and bought more inserts. It was quite a high initial cost but meant I didn't have to spend an arm and a leg on nappies every week.

I used to get the degradable, flushable liners from Boots and would shake the poo off into the toilet and rinse the nappy under the flush.

I used to make them up at the start of every day and then use them in the same way you'd use a disposable. At the end of the day I'd wash the whole bucket full of used nappies and dry them on the radiator in time for the next day (though if for some reason this wasn't possible I had loads of spares).

I don't really want to be buying more nappies now that I have plenty of terry squares, they do work well but are fiddly to change especially when out.

I'm hoping my 4yo wont be in them much longer but for now he'll have to get used to them ;-)

Do you have a nappy library near you? They often have long term loan nappies that are easier than Terrie's for about and about and far cheaper than buying new.

Sorry, I mis-read and thought you were thinking of buying some, not that you already had Blush
The nappy library is a good idea though. I'd assume that they will also be able to offer advice on folds, washing and pinning etc.

That's ok :-)

By the time they are out of nappies I'll be an expert with a nappy pin ;-)

I don't use Terry's but shaped but I think nappy nippas are meant to be easier than pins. With my prefolds I used to have them ore folded and ready to go in n the wraps.could you get reusable nappy training pants for the 4 year old?

My 3 dses all wore cloth nappies. I used terry squares with a kite fold and either pins or nappy nippers, although the nippers eventually ruined the loops in the towelling. I used to line them with folded muslins and a rectangle of fleece cut from a cheap Ikea blanket. One blanket made about 30 rectangles and I still use them as cloths 8 years after they were last used as liners. Waterproof wrap on the outside.

Kite fold demonstrated (annoyingly slowly) here:

It's the fold for boys. There's a different one for girls but I don't know it.

I switched to shaped cloth nappies once they reached about 9 months as they were easier and needed changing less often but for the first few months terry squares were best.

Hi there's loads of cloth nappy Facebook groups (even the selling groups are great for advice as they get a lot of traffic) that you can join for advice. The Nappy Lady group is good www.facebook.com/groups/TNLParentGroup/

Thanks everyone, I guess like anything else terries will get easier with time :-)

I appreciate nippas are faster but at the moment I find I get a better and more secure fit with nappy pins
