Holiday advice for 7 month old!

My DS will be 7 months old when we go to Gran Canaria next month for 2 weeks. This is our first holiday and I'm not really sure what to do with his routine? He usually goes to bed at 7pm but we would like to push it back to around 8-8:30pm so that he can come out to dinner and eat with us in the evening. Has anyone tried this before and found that it can work?

Also not sure what to take for him to wear during the daytime? From looking at the weather it looks quite windy but it around 30 degrees at the minute!

Thanks!

Any other holiday advice for travelling with a baby would be appreciated also!

Just go with the flow. Either let him nap longer in the afternoon, so he's ready for bed later. Or just give him dinner as usual and put him to bed in the pram and head off out for dinner.

From my limited experience, you can't guarantee anything on holiday. Go with the easiest thing! My kids are 3.5 and 2, and we've holidayed successfully with them since tiny babies. Don't stress about stuff like routines. So long as they sleep and eat at sensible times, it's all good.

Re weather. Short&tshirts, vests, rompers etc are all acceptable attire for 7month olds in the heat. Keep them in the shade, and slap on sunscreen.

Oh, and take spare clothes for you and you your baby in hand luggage on the flight. I've been vomited on in every flight I've been on with my children 😖

I'm on holiday right now with my 10mo, albeit in the U.K.! We did the same a few months ago.

I've adjusted his routine so that he goes to bed at 9pm rather than 6:30pm like he does back home. He wakes up later in the morning as well so that's great. A couple of late nights was all it took.

I live in a country where temperatures regularly reach 40+ in the summer. DS wears short sleeved, short legged rompers with no socks or shoes and a sun hat. I carry a light blanket in case the temperature dips. He wears a 1 toy grobag at night.

Yes totally agree with pp - took DD away abroad since she was 6 months - don't worry too much about routine - I tend to use the time difference to help, but that's no use in the Canaries! Keep in the shade with short rompers / vests on, will all be good! So much easier at this age than when they are toddling!!!

We dropped the routine for holiday and it was fab! Took him out and he napped in pram when tired, came out with us in the evenings and fell asleep in the pram when tired and we transferred him to cot once we got in. He had a fab time and no problems straight back to usual at home. He mostly wore short rompers too - cool, easy and all in one. Be flexible, relax and have fun. No need to stress!

Dropping the routine for the holiday is easy, getting back into it later, not so easy.Grin

With used to dress them in short sleeved romper suits which were prefect. I would also suggest a change of clothes for you on the plane. DS1 sat in my lap and wet through his nappy, and my lap on landing once. I spent a very soggy hour getting to the hotel.

Yep, as PP just be aware that changing for the holiday may change if for home. My DS has needed to bed share since we returned from holiday last month in order to sleep through the night (which he had been doing prior to hols) in hindsight I'd have stuck to routine

Samanthaamy91 · 10/08/2017 08:06

Thank you for all the advice! Feeling much more relaxed about it all now!

Will definitely take a change of clothes for the plane. Didn't think of that! You may have saved me a soggy 4 hours!

Hi,
Are you on holidays right now?
Has your hotel a creche/baby club? If so could you give me the name anhd your thought about it please?

I am looking to book something in Canaries for the 1st week of October.
My little would be 8 month.

Thanks

Samanthaamy91 · 09/09/2017 15:47

Yes we are on holiday now. It's fab! There isn't a crèche or baby club, it's for over 4 year olds but there is a disco in the evening at 9pm that my LO absolutely loves to watch.
We are staying in the H10 Meleronas. They've been great and have provided baby purées for lunch and dinner

Thanks. Enjoy your holidays and the sunny weather when we are dealing with heavy showers :(
