Finding things quite stressful with ds (17mths) who has only recently started to walk. He wants to go outside ALL the time and walk around. A friend suggested slotting our day into sections eg breakfast time, TV time, together playtime, outside etc etc. Does anyone do craft type activities with toddlers this age? If so what type of things do you do? Or it would be great to hear any activities in general that you have found a success.

17 months? Painting w/ DD, but not much else. My DS was similar -- we still (he's now 4yo) go to the playground in slots of 2-4 hours. His fave places were carparks, canal verges & building sites. U may just have 2 get used 2 it!

ps: British (& Irish) children spend more time indoors than any other kids in OECD countries -- not a good thing, w/ high levels of indoor air pollution, which may be a factor in highest asthma rates in this part ofthe world, too. Stay out as much as U can.

My two (also 17 months old) love the swing and the slide, and also just like going for walks, both in and out of the pram.

Craft activities - hmmm - DH brought them home from toddler group covered in glue a few weeks back - apparently they really like it - but I can't say they actually stuck the glue to anything but themselves

Ds2 is 17 months old and loves drawing with pens and crayons. The only problem is getting him to do this on paper and not on the walls. I would recommend putting lots of newspaper down and only buying washable pens, paints etc.

when dd was this age I taped lining paper to the floor in the kitchen and let her paint or draw.
she also loved ( and still does) painting the garden fance and patio with large diy paintbrushes (with water!)
He might like a go at playdough as well

The toddler group I go to did a chocolate fondue thing a few weeks back. Just melted chocolate, strawberries, banana, marshmellows etc. My dd (19 months) had a whale of a time dipping in the chocolate and then putting the fruit on greaseproof paper. She made loads but wouldn't eat any (not keen on chocolate). Great fun anyway!!!!

Try some big pieces of chalk if you've got some concrete outside. My dd's love drawing all over the place then it all just washes off. Footpaths and local parks will do if you'vwe none in your garden.
