Hi, just wondering if anyone can give me some ideas to play with my daughter at home. We do play doh, drawing, stickers, finger painting, baking biscuits...and now I'm lacking inspiration! She doesn't go to nursery so I would like to do some of things they do! Thank you.

Get some masking tape and use it to mark roads all over the floor, pavement chalk on the patio, get the pots and pans out to play with, give her a washing up bowl of ice cubes,

Water play, in the bath or outside of the weather is nice (colour the water with food colouring)
Sandbox/pit
Model making from recycled boxes, robots from cereal boxes, etc
Life sized person - draw round her on s bit of wallpaper or paper roll, wool for hair, cut up old clothes to stick on. Make it 'her'

Go on Pinterest and google to look for 'activities for 2 year olds'

I'm looking at the same thing, DD is nearly 2 and I'll be on maternity leave in a couple of weeks so am trying to plan lots of indoor activities suitable for weather/having a newborn to contend with too :)

Here is what I've come up with so far that's not on your list -

  • paint story stones (also make an adventure of going out to find the story stones)
  • make/fill bird feeders and hang them outside the window, spend some time each day bird spotting
  • blanket forts (not a regular thing, more of a stuck inside alllllll day type one)
  • making and painting clay pots (just give her lumps of clay to smush while you shape some crude pots to paint - you can also get kits but these are often in moulds and the clay is a lot more liquid, so not as great for little ones
  • I've also ordered my DD a big doll house for her birthday in a few weeks as she is getting to an age where she really likes role play, and have seen kids that age be really absorbed by things like that
  • music! get or make some easy instruments, such as filling a clear plastic bottle with beads or similar, have a little session of singing songs and playing the instruments - great for development and uses a surprising amount of energy
  • my DD is really getting into sorting stuff now, can you get some puzzles or some "colour boxes"? basically a few small boxes with a bunch of random items all the same colour in each box. That's just one example, there are so many things to turn into a sorting activity

Am at work but will be following for more suggestions and will post if I think of more Easter Smile

Cheapy plastic fish in a tupperware tub. Fill with water and blue food colouring and feeze. Pop them out the next day and give them spoons/jug of warm water etc. to chip away at the ice and get the fishes.

Make animals out of egg boxes and pipe cleaners (spiders, caterpillars etc.)

Ds likes a kids magazine every so often.

Does she have any car or train track? Ds can entertain himself with this (after a bit of help with set up) for ages.

What about building duplo, megablocks etc? We make houses, airports etc for his existing toys.

25 month old?

??

Great ideas, thank you. Sometimes I just lack ideas! We are usually out doing things at the park or feeding the ducks, that kind of thing but I'm not very good at staying in.

Escargot- yes that's right, 25 months, as in two years and one month if that's what you would prefer I say Hmm. Was just trying to convey that she is nearer two than three.

Thank you for your input too Cherries. Useful post! Smile

Tehehe thank you Cowbella Easter Smile

It is lovely having this time to do these things with them isnt it? I've only gone back full time recently (was part time until Feb, same time I fell pregnant, so great timing!) And have really missed being at home with her.
