October Baby Essentials?!

Due 16th October and was just wondering if anyone had any essential products that I will need for my little boy. Just started buying things as we're getting closer.

Also, what should he wear under his pramsuit? Bought a lovely thick one and was just wondering what he should wear underneath? Long sleeved vest and a sleepsuit has been suggested?

Thanks all xx

One of mine was an October baby and 2 others middle of winter babies. I only found a pramsuit good if you were going out for a long walk. I found a medium weight jacket, hat and a couple of folded blankets easier whenever we were going in and out of the car/ houses/shops. If they are sleeping you don't want to lift them out of a car seat/pram immediately when you go inside to get the pramsuit off and I found unless outside they can get very warm in a pramsuit. But with layers you could take off a hat, lift off a blanket and unzip a coat whilst they remained asleep.

Mine would have always worn short sleeved vests and sleepsuits. You can't have too many of these. Don't buy too many newborn size as one of mine was 9lbs 12.5ozs and fitted newborn clothes for a week! Buy more 0-3 months size.

If your main change mat is upstairs I found it handy to have a mat and basket of essentials e.g. Nappy, wipes, spare vest, sleepsuit etc downstairs to save you always running upstairs.

A sling - can be worn inside the house to get things done whilst holding an unsettled baby close.

A pack of 10 terry nappies - not to use as a nappy - but as a burp cloth, under their head when lying on a play mat to catch any milk dribbles, under their bums if having nappy free time, on the changemat as the plastic can feel cold to lie a baby on in the middle of the night etc etc.

Grobags - if you are going to use them. TKMaxx often have them at good prices.

One of my winter babies didn't like cotton cot sheets they only liked the flannelette sheets as they didn't feel as cool to the touch.

Happy shopping!

I didn't used a pram suit for my early November baby as I preferred blankets, easier to remove when required, especially as when you get back from a walk and he/she is asleep you can park pram in the hall remove blankets and get a cup of tea whilst baby sleeps on. Wink

Fabric sling great to wear when they won't go down so you can still get on pee with your hands free

Crochet hook and YouTube - never found hats that actually fitted or that were wool in the shops. Going out in the winter particularly in a sling I wanted more than a badly fitting cloth hat

Coat with a hood that stays up and is waterproof (for you) very difficult to use an umbrella whilst pushing a pram

Baby wears - generally one more layer than you, so if you're wearing tshirt jumper coat then baby would be in vest babygrows jumper coat. Pram suits come in different thickness so might remove jumper if it's a big padded one

I was going to suggest a baby hoodie. So much easier than struggling to get them into a pram suit [smike]

My DS was born late Oct and like pp I found pramsuits more of a pain tbh. Don't know if I was doing something wrong but I found the arms really difficult and DS hated being stuffed into it. Much easier to use cardigans you can unbutton or blankets you can remove if they are asleep when you get home.

I would also suggest a travel mug, like a Bodum one. Will keep a cup of tea warm for hours so great for when you finally get round to drinking it 3 hours later or for taking on a walk with you.
