I can't get this out of my head... so sad

I watched that programme last night about 10 year olds (on Five) - I started another thread on it, which got no replies - but I just keep thinking about it because there was a girl on there who had a horrific accident when she was 18 months, she got severly burnt in an accidental house fire. They didn't expect her to survive, but she is doing very well. Anyway, they said on the programme that her mother couldn't cope with the situation and she left, and the girl hasn't seen her mother for 7 years. That is so sad, isn't it? I'm trying not to judge this mother, but I just cannot understand how you could do that.

I didn;t watch the programme - afriad I would just find it too upsetting (such a coward) because of the girl with the burns. Didn;t realise that her mum had left. Thats so aweful - how much has she (the girl) to put up with in this life. Understand the mother may have felt unable to cope but the poor girl...

I saw an interview with the dad once and he said the mum had left because she felt responsible for her daughter's injuries and couldn't take the guilt (I think the fire started from a ciggarette butt). It is incredibly sad. I think both the little girl and her dad are amazing. It makes me so grateful for my life.

Was that Terri Calvesbert. What an amazing girl and an amazing dad. I think the thing with her mum was the guilt. She started the fire with a cigareete didn't she ? I suppose it's not easy to comment on how you would feel unless it happened to you. She still has contact with her mums parents though so maybe she could be reunited with her.

Yes, it was Lilyloo.

The programme touched me on so many levels, also because the first girl on it had dwarfism, just like my ds.

Wonderful to see how this tiny little thing of a girl was doing so well and was so happy.

She did interview in magazine this week. Talking about her dad getting married to his girlfriend, she called her her new mum. I think her dad's done a fantastic job with her.

Yes he seemed to be a fantastic bloke.

emkana - she looked lovely and sparky in the trailers, I feel to have been too chicken to watch it now.

sue - do you mean the girl with dwarfism or Terri?

They were both amazing, and the boy as well.

no the little girl with dwarfism - I saw the bit of her in the pool at the end and just thought how lovely and full of life she looked. Didn't see the other two except the trailer.

Those children were so amazing.
Terri was just incredible. Her spirit and bravery were humbling.
I was shocked to find out about her mother and i did instantly utter 'bitch'
But then until you have (God forbid) ever been in those circumstances you cannot really judge.
The first gilr was beautiful too and it was lovley seeing her with her 'small' freinds as they seemed to revel in each others company.
I felt a bit aggreived for the boy as I felt it was unfair that he had so much responsiblity.
The family seemed to have quite a bit of money, and I felt that maybe it would have been better spent on providing a carer for the Mum rather than sending him and his sister to an expensive school?
All wonderful children though, and a brilliant programme.
