Where to start with weaning?

DS is coming up to six months old and is very interested in food. He is almost sitting up unaided now and has been able to hold his head up since early on. Just not sure where to introduce some food as he is currently(!) a good sleeper and I don't want to undo this!!

His routine is as follows:

5-5.30am wake
8oz bottle 6.00am
Nap 7.30-9.00am
8oz bottle 10.00am
Nap 11.30-1pm
8oz bottle 2pm
Nap 3.30-4.30/5pm
9oz bottle 6pm
Bed 7pm

Just not sure where to start introducing it without it reducing his milk intake as I know that's his main calorie source.

I was going to do mainly purée with some BLW thrown in (I need to embrace the mess Confused)

Any advice on how to do it or what your experience was would be greatly appreciated.

I just gave dd food when we were eating. Started with dinner as I felt happier when dh was home initially (he has aot of allergies so was advised to do nuts etc with 2 adults at home) , and just fitted.in with is rather than organising separate meal times. F

Just offer baby something initially once a day when you're eating yourself anyway - breakfast/lunch or dinner doesn't matter which one, I guess just depends what food you're having. With DS1 I cooked a lot of baby food specifically for him and froze purees in ice cube trays - so much hassle, just for him to turn into a fussy eater as a toddler!! With DS2 I just give him some of what I'm having that is suitable and have done so pretty much from the start, also using a lot more finger foods.
He probably wont have much to start with anyway so wouldn't have thought it should affect sleep too much.

Dc1 solved this dilemma at 5.5mths when she screamed the place down until allowed to snatch a piece of brocolli off my plate

Middle of the day often works best as breakfast can be rushed and dinner too close to bedtime if you have a vomiter and/or watching out for potential reactions to things. Keep the bottles the same for now. With your routine, I'd try adding in some tastes at either 11ish or 2.30ish. Don't want them to be too hungry or tired.
