At what age did you change from the cot to the toddler bed? Along with a duvet and pillow?

Thanks in advance! Halo

DD1 had a duvet and pillow in her cot from 22 months, into a toddler bed at just 2.
DD2 was in a full size single (bypassed toddler bed) with duvet and pillow at 18 months.

Ds went into a toddler bed at around 2.5 ish. He went into a normal double at about 3.

InDubiousBattle · 29/07/2017 20:36

Sorry normal single bed!

At just turned 3. She never tried to climb out of the cot so no need to do it earlier. Bought her a toddler bed, pillow and duvet and did it all at the same time. She was in sleeping bags in her cot.

DD went into a bed from a cot when we started toilet training, at about 2 1/2. We replaced the onesie and sleeping bag with pyjamas and duvet at the same time for obvious reasons! All a waste of effort, she got day time pretty quickly but I think it was over a year till she was out of nappies at night.

Ecureuil · 29/07/2017 20:42

Yeah, both of mine were dry day and night before 2 so that was a factor in it. Also DD2 kept asking for a big bed like her sister. Wouldn't have bothered for a while otherwise

DS is 21 months and still in his cot but I introduced a pillow & duvet at 18months - worked well as when he kicked the duvet off it didn't matter due to the temp being really warm anyway. He's now learnt how to pull the duvet over him. Plan to put him into his toddler bed in a few months as DD will need the cot, I would move him now but DD due anytime so don't want to do at a time of big change for him.

We took the side off DS cot at 22 months. Mostly cos he's a climber, and whilst we'd managed to contain him by dropping the cot mattress to the floor, it meant we couldn't stay anywhere else overnight. He transitioned totally fine and has slept on a sofa bed, a double bed and a ready bed on various trips away in the past few months. We introduced the duvet and pillow at the same time, but he's not consistent at keeping them on. Fortunately it's summer so he's fine without. He'll be moving to a single bed in he next month as DC2 is due in October and getting the cot.

Sides off cot for dc1 age 20mo as he launched out. DC2 still in cot and happy at 29mo. Will move her soon.

There is no right or wrong. DS (now 6) was in a toddler bed at 13 months. DD is 2, we tried her in a bed, she kept waking every hour. I needed sleep so I give in and put her back in the cot where she sleeps better. She doesn't try get out of it yet. I tried the bed as I felt she's would enjoy more space but it made her sleep terribly 😂

DS1 has just gone into his toddler bed this week at 2.5 years. No need to do it any earlier as he never attempted to get out of his cot. Only doing it now as DC2 is due in November and we didn't want DS1 to feel Baby was "stealing" his cot. Also didn't want to have too many changes for him all at the same time. We gave him a duvet and pillow about 6 months ago whilst still in his cot so again, not as big a change. He hasn't tried to get out of his bed yet, he lies there in the morning until we go in - I don't think he realises he can get out!! Also got a Gro Clock which I feel has been beneficial in keeping him in his bed if he does wake early.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 31/07/2017 22:57

Cot mattress on the floor for a bit at 16 months as he could climb out and then full size single bed at about 18 months iirc.

Hunkle · 31/07/2017 22:58

We've got the Gro-to-bed range. It's brilliant, I can zip her in & stop her falling out.

We waited until it was reduced in Argos though.

Sleepingonthebus · 31/07/2017 23:02

DS climbed out of his cot from 15 months so it was straight into a single bed - pillow, duvet and guard. No issues at all.

kel1234 · 31/07/2017 23:13

My son was 17 months. He was in his cot in our room, but he hated it. He wasn't climbing out, but I could tell he wanted a bed. We got him a toddler bed and a duvet and pillow. Best thing we ever did. Why they advise that the older the better for moving to a bed is beyond me.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 01/08/2017 07:22

The key to this is 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'.

Both of mine were climbers sadly, so moved earlyish. But if your child is happy and sleeping well why change anything? When I moved both it affected their sleep and made nap time impossible, in fact dd1 never had another lunchtime nap and she was about 20 months I think Shock.

There really is no rush on this one.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm thinking about moving my DS into a new toddler bed along with the mattress he is using as I'm expecting twins in January so I would like to use the cot for them along with a new mattress.
It's a while before they are due but not sure when to move my DS before then as he is only 18 months currently!

Decided the time was right when DD started flinging herself out of the cot and hurting herself at about 18 months. We had a cotbed so just took the side off. We upgraded to a single bed when we decorated her room for her 3rd birthday.

She hated grow bags and had a duvet from 9 months. Also a pillow as she always slept with her head slightly raised. She also hated sleepsuits so was in PJs from 6 months Hmm.

Orangedaisy · 01/08/2017 15:44

DD1 has just had the side off her cotbed and out of sleeping bag at 3.3. She wasn't trying to climb out, slept well in it and hadn't asked for a big girl bed so we didn't think it necessary before that.
