Milks come in - it's everywhere

Hello,

My milk has come in today yay, however it's everywhere.

I'm struggling to get him to latch as he is sliding, it's literally bubbling in his mouth. He coughed while on and it literally sprayed everywhere. I put him on one breast and it poured out the other.

I was leaning over the sink earlier just letting it drip.

My left breast has gone huge and hard which also isn't helping. I've been trying to express some off to make it softer for him

Any advice/ experiences would be welcome

Thank you

Congrats on your newborn!

Can you lean back before latching him on as this will let gravity help you out a bit

This happened to me. Milk literally pouring over dd's face as she tried to feed! It didn't last long if I recall correctly. Your boobs soon get the hang of producing the right amount of milk. I think I just used a million breast pads and let it flow. DD fed ok once they had gone down a bit

This was the same for me. I fed my baby lying back which readily helped. It'll settle down in a short while. Boobs do crazy things at he beginning!

Hey totally normal. Lucky baby having so much milk!!

Try lying down feeding. Or the laid back latch. Or if baby struggling with flow then why not express just a little bit off first??

Good luck x

Agree to laying back a bit. Also I used to hold a muslin over one or both if needed and just let a bit squirt out.

Baby will soon get the hang of dealing with it and after the first 4 weeks ish you should find it starts to settle.

For the first several days, it really helps if you get into the shower and use your hands to express a lot of milk out of your breasts. The warm water helps. It will then be much easier for the baby to latch on.

Get yourself some good breastpads, lansinoh or Johnson are most absorbent, then you don't need to worry about the other side leaking at least ;)
