MY SON JUST BANGED HIS HEAD - pic included

My 9 month old son banged his head on the edge of his cot while I was cleaning his bedroom, he wasn't in the cot he was just playing next to it.

As soon as he did it he obviously screamed and I've comforted him and calmed him down. But it was like a dent in his head to begin with and was blue now it's become raised.

He seems ok while I'm holding him but do I need to get him seen to? I know kids bang their heads all the time but this was the worst one yet. I feel so bad for him
It doesn't look as bad in the picture but it does look sore

No expert, but I know when my DS was same age and fell out of cot, I was told to keep him awake and check pupils. If he seems bright and alert that's a good sign.

If he didnt pass out (a scream is a good indication that he didnt) did not vomit and the swelling is pushing out and so therefore not pushing in, then I would say you are safe to do some watchful waiting at home. If you want to be extra careful, get a torch and shine it in each eye in turn. If you see his pupil get smaller then that is good. I would keep him close for the rest of the day and if he starts to vomit, or becomes confused or listless, or his eyes dont react to light, then take him straight in

I worry less about forehead bangs but as Sea said, without any loss of consciousness or puking I'd be watching him like a hawk but not worried. You'll see a lot more eggs like that over the next few years!

Thank you everyone who replied. The bump soon went down and you can hardly see the bruise now. Sure there's plenty more of those to come!

So glad he is better.

DS (9.5mo) did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago! I felt awful but he was fine, apart from a massive bruise Confused He's banged his head many, many times since then and as long as he seems normal and happy afterwards I try not to worry.
