18 month old bumping head/grazing knees etc all the time - normal?

Hi,

My 18 month old son never sits still and seems to have a new bruise/bump/cut/graze every day. Especially on his head. Is this normal? Will he be doing himself any harm with all the head bumping? I do try and watch him and keep him safe, but I'm not always fast enough and then feel incredibly guilty.
Thanks

Yes. They grow out of it. My DD had a permanent bruised forehead for about 5 months when she was about that age.

Thanks John. He's got another bruise this morning on his head which triggered me to post. Glad it's not just him!

My 17 month old always has at least one bump or graze on her. I let her explore and climb a lot though, still makes me feel bad seeing them!

I babysat a friend's 18mo a few years ago (before i had my ds, so pretty unused to babies!). He was a very busy baby. In the 2 hours i gad him he shook the (analogue) tv and the decorative metal box on top fell on his head. Bump one.

Then he was going around the wall bouncing on his hands iyswim, hands out to push off. Giggle giggle. Forgot to put hands up. Face slapped the wall. Bump 2.

I was mortified, parents weren't suprised at all!

My American friend has twin boys. When they were between 18mo-5 years (ish) they had permanent bangs on their heads. After about the 5th trip tobthe doctor ge said "i can see you love and take good care of your dc, but if you come in again with this ss will need to be informed as with all kids. Go buy some superglue and just glue them up from now on". So she did! Tiny bit of super glue on each cut = no more doctors. Clean the cut, glue it, clean fix.

Do not worry at all. My 5yo has bruises and little cuts (finger trapped in Lego, picked up a stick with a thorn) etc all the time.

Yes my son was like this. He's just turned 2 and no longer has the permanent bruised head/knees. Hes taken to more occasional much worse bumps. Sad
