Not sure of the best place to post this.
Im thinking of having a party for my 8 year old at home, just a few girlfriends. I have ordered a kareoke microphone and also thinking of doing just dance on the wii.
Any other ideas to keep them occupied!!
Thanks

Buy craft stuff from the £1shop and let them craft away, I did that for my daughter's 6th birthday and she loved it, be warned you will be finding glitter for weeks though!

Are 8year old girls still in to crafting? At 8, DS wanted cinema and Pizza Hut!

Loveagoodbook · 26/07/2017 09:05

We were going to do cinema and pizza hut but i thought they can mess about more at home.
i may get a pinata that could take up all of 10 mins!

8 year olds I know are definitely still into crafts.
All sounds great. Maybe let them decorate biscuits or cupcakes or something? Or make rice crispy cakes.
I would be flexible have extra things to do but if they are enjoying just dance leave them to it.
Have you seen the colourful lightbulbs? I think you can get them in b and m or similar shops. About £10 and u have a remote control to change it to around 15 different coulors. Might be fun for the karaoke.x

Make up a list of awards
Loudest singer
Most expressive singer
Best moves
Most likely to get a record contract
Most stunning outfit
Funnyist
Drama queen etc etc
Have the list and get all the guests to vote anon (number to match guests) count them up then have an awards ceremony The Jennifers (name of birthday girl) - print out certificates or buy something and don't have party bag.
Mocktail making can be a good fun activity for this age with different juices etc - good resources on line.
I love a home party - enjoy

Yes 8yos are generally mad about crafting. Hobbycraft and the like do those little cardboard boxes that they can decorate as jewellery boxes etc. DD1 is 9 and her and her friends still love all that.

Mine enjoyed crafts, piñata, dressing up in fancy dress, glowsticks disco, pizza, candy buffet. Dvd and midnight feast at end.
Mine like to choose a theme and we decorate to that

What about letting them make homemade face masks and do each others nails and makeup if they're allowed to wear it.

Ooh yes! I remember giving kids ice cream, cones, a variety of toppings, sprinkles, a variety of sweets such as snakes & smarties and having an ice cream decorating competition. I had made up 'certificates' with fancy fonts saying Most Over-The Top, Most Colourful, Most Creative, Most Delicious' etc. We (DP & I) presented the the awards with lots of theatrics & each person received an award. Kids absolutely loved it. It was dessert and an activity. We did it on an outside table with plastic tablecloth, possibly followed by water games I think. DD loved it so much we did it again at another party a year or two later. A variation could be pizza decorating (& cooking). Kids seem to love being able to make creations with lots of choices.

I enjoyed creating treasure hunts too. The clues could be fairly simple for 8yr olds, ie: pictograms etc. I'd usually get the kids in a couple of teams and off they'd go. When DD was a bit older, say 11ish, I'd make the clues quite tricky, like anagrams, riddles & puzzle solving. Then when DD was 15 she designed herself a really complex treasure hunt that involved using mobile phones, canoeing to retrieve a clue etc. culminating with each team arriving at a locked box containing the final clue that led them to a Pinata. Regardless of age the kids would love it & it's great fun watching running off to retrieve more clues. A bit a pre-planning involved though.

Ah! Those were the days; DD is 16 now and doesn't want me to have any input into parties these days! Having birthday parties for little kids is so much fun. Exhausting, but fun!
