How to stop breastfeeding a 16 month old

Hi everyone, I have a 16 month old who seems to love the boob more than ever. I'm keen to start weaning him off, he definitely uses me for comfort not for hunger. Any tips/advice on how best to do this? At the moment he is fed in the morning and before bed but if he wakes at night he is demanding to be fed as well!! Thanks x

I think going cold turkey is the best approach from my experience. Comfort him, kiss him and hold him, but no more nursing. It might be a tough couple of days, but he will get over it quickly.

I went cold turkey at 19m as I felt that was right for DD. My sister did night weaning first though and then found day feeding just trailed off naturally.

Dh had to help at night, do you have someone who can help? It wasn't as bad as I feared it would be!

For the night feed, can your DP put him to bed a few nights as a transition? This may make it easier for your boy.
Personally I'm glad I kept the morning feed as long as possible until he self-weaned (around 23 months), it meant getting to snooze an extra 15 minutes in the morning, or if I was really lucky he'd fall asleep for another half an hour! Grin

Thanks all! Yes I think DP will have to do some night settling to try and get through it. Think we'll try and drop a feed to start Smile

My sister went abroad on a holiday and her dd stopped during the week. Different environment and going out and about her dd didn't look for it.
