How to get rid of the baby bottle

My DD will only drink milk from a baby bottle although she can and will drink water from anything, including an open cup, without any problems.

I want her to stop asking for milk in a baby bottle and have tried over a dozen different types of alternative bottles instead for her to have it in. She refuses all of them and short of just taking it away, which I don't think is feasible as she has a younger sister she sees drinking from baby bottles, and the horrible time that will follow, I don't know what else to try.

I've heard about cutting the teat to make it bigger so it stops being a comfort. Has anyone tried this?

Or I thought of flavouring the milk with something harmless but horrible tasting so she associates baby bottles with tasting awful, but I don't know what would be appropriate or whether it would be completely inappropriate anyway.

Any suggestions very gratefully received. She has just turned two.

I think you should just take it away. Explain that big children don't drink (anything) from bottles. Explain that her younger sister is still a baby so is allowed to drink from a bottle until she turns 1, and then she'll stop as well. If you feel it will help, tell her that it is bad for her teeth to drink milk from a bottle.

If she doesn't drink much or any milk for a few days while she learns to accept the situation, it won't do her any harm at this age, as long as you give her some other calcium-rich foods such as yoghurt and cheese.

Don't give up! The complaining won't last long!

Just take it away. She'll get over it pretty quickly. Make sure you throw them all away so you can't give in to her though! And stop the younger one's as soon as they turn one, much easier at that age. If she refuses milk for a while then she'll be fine with water plus plenty of dairy in her diet.

Oh and I wouldn't replace with a different type of bottle. Just stick with a variety of cups.

How often does she have a bottle ? Just cut it out maybe let her have 1 at night or the morning but i think you are going to have to just go for it you could dillute the milk so it is more water than milk so she is eventually weaned off it.

If she is 2 she does not really need to drink milk.
She can have porridge for breakfast, cheese on toast etc to get a good calcium intake.
I would just stop the bottles all together without making a fuss about it, offer milk in a cup if she asks for it.
She will be fine.

2 year olds should drink milk! Just take her bottle away and offer it in a cup. It wont harm her if she doesn't have any for a few days. I had to go cold turkey on bottles at 2 years old. He kicked up a fuss, realised they weren't coming back and now drinks from those IKEA cups.
