Hi just want opinions on the subject
Would you complain to a stranger about their swearing whilst in public?
Would you move away?
Example.. sitting in restaurant and the couple opposite can't complete a sentence without dropping the "f" word and your young children are in ear shot and can hear everything?
Would you move ?

How old are the dc? Mine are just 2 and 3.5 and I probably wouldn't move away. If ds (the 3.5 year old) I would say that they're grown up words and he shouldn't use them. Swear words are words and my kids will hear them eventually.

Yea I agree no it's not personally me my children are old enough to understand and one baby.. but I know this comes up a lot in life like some friends don't care and some take offence and some family care but others to an extent. But in that particular similar position I don't know what's the best way to handle it. But having respect for everyone around and keeping in mind they are adults etc

My older DD was brought up on film sets, so she knew every colourful word by the time she was 3. She never swears herself, though I don't regulate my own language around her. I feel that making the words forbidden turns them into something tantalising. I've had conversations with DD (who is now 6) about swearing, and my viewpoint is that swear words aren't bad words, it's the context that's important. You can say "You look fucking amazing" and "homosexuality is disgusting" - one has swear words, one doesn't. But which is actually the offensive sentence?
