M and s. I can't say best because my son is only just finishing reception but he's worn the same pair all year (except when he's been in shorts!) and they still look fab. I've ironed them once a week and the crease down the front is good.

Of course if you are expecting your child to grow at any point the longest lasting uniform isn't the Best Buy... but I've accepted that my boy is!'t going to be super tall ever!!

Depends. Is your son likely to be hard on the knees or not? If not, go for Next or M&S, cost a little more, looks a little better. If yes, get supermarket ones in the knowledge that you'll be replacing them every term anyway as the holes appear (Ds1 I'm talking to you Hmm)

Next and m&s do opposite sizing

3/4 5/6
Or 4/5 6/7

So we had to swap each year

Love Asda as they have the pull in waist - Tesco a sometimes

All last the same but the fit is different

Tesco ones have reinforced knees too. Ds has been wearing school shorts though so never wore any of the trousers I bought for last year

Sainsbury's with reinforced knees were awful & only lasted 1 term (I complained & got a refund). M&S have lasted for the rest of the year & will be worn again in Sept

I've just discovered that Matalan ones are really good and very cheap too :)

People assume M&S is the best, but I disagree. In my sons first year of primary school. I bought everything from M&S the trousers weren't great - belt loops ripped off so fixed them and hem came down and they didn't seem to fit my son right.

They had to replaced after Christmas. I bought him some Asda trousers which I found to be great. They wash and tumble dry well and lasted for the rest of the year.

I bought DS some shorts from M&S a few months ago (these were from their autism range) and they aren't great tbh. Asda shorts fit my son better!

Haven't tried Tesco, Sainsbury's etc but I wouldn't waste your money on M&S. I buy all DSs uniform from Asda now - other than the shoes which I buy from clarks as they do last all year for DS.

MyfatheristheKing · 22/07/2017 21:37

Green M&S do 3-4 4-5 5-6 etc

I really rated M&S ones. My kids all look so good I am going to resell them, cheap mind you. But they still look brand new almost even after a year

BuffyFan · 22/07/2017 21:40

My son's just finished reception in the same 4 pairs of Sainsbury's trousers as he started. Only bought him shorts at half term. I think if you're going to buy cheap, buy plenty.

I'd echo a previous poster - long lasting / hard wearing may come to nothing if your kid has a growth spurt. Equally if your child isn't particularly physical or clumsy then no need necessarily for the reinforced knees you get in some.

Fortunatepiggy · 24/07/2017 11:22

I've bought one pair from Lidl but they have s hook and eye and zip which he will struggle with. Also bought Asda great quality but seem a bit thick hard material will hopefully improve after washing

Thanks
