Hello!!!
Can anyone offer me some support and guidance on how to help my 7 day old baby bring her wind up...? She is really struggling and I can tell it's so uncomfortable for her...thankyou!! Smile

I discovered that I needed to be a lot more vigorous than I expected. I was being very gentle but found I had to actually be very firm.

Also, I'd change her position a few times and alternate between patting and rubbing.

Oh and I'd wind her after each ounce rather than at the end
While I was bf I'd stop regularly rather than wait until she was finished.

What positions have you tried? A good one I found was laid on his front on my knees, angled upwards slightly, and then rub/pat.

Some babies do struggle though - my mum told me my sister could never get it up from winding. She had to lay her down and wait for her to start wriggling from discomfort, then pick her back up and she would bring it up then. Hope you get sorted.

I agree, sometimes you need to be more vigorous than you think.
Mine was hard to wind too, and I found resting her on one hand, with my hand on her stomach, rocking her backwards and forwards while patting and rubbing her back quite firmly helped a little.
There are massages for helping hard to wind babies too, you can find loads on YouTube.

My 10 week old had bad wind as a newborn which we really struggled with. My SIL told me about some Chinese remedy she used on her little one and it worked wondered.

You place the baby on your knees facing you supporting its head holding under their arms and do 3 large circle motions clockwise and then 3 large circle motions anti clockwise.

Something about baby being in that position which released the air bubbles.

I know it sounds really odd and definitely was a new one for us but it worked - resulted in some very big burps!!! I still swear by it now and works every time!

If you don't want to try that then I agree with others, I was being way too gentle with rubbing/patting his back scared of hurting him but you do need to be slightly vigorous with it.

If all fails then I'd suggest waiting a few minutes after a feed (if they are not screaming like mad) and then trying again, that seem to work for my boy without much effort from me!

Good luck, it will get better! :)
