Teething/not sleeping/going insane

My 11mo has got three top teeth coming down at the same time which understandably is messing him about.

He has gone from being a brilliant sleeper (sleeping through the night) to taking hours to go to sleep, waking at least once in the night (usually when calpol/calgel wears off), and not sleeping in the day.

At bedtime he just jumps in his cot for hours not even considering sleep. On a bad night, he can wake up to three times and take 30 mins to go back to sleep each time.

And as for daytime naps, they are a thing of the past, it seems. He used to wake for bottle at around 7-7.30, then go straight back to bed for 2-2 1/4 hours, and then another hours in the afternoon. But for the past few days, he's been waking at 6am and not going back to sleep until around 1pm- a sleep that only happens because he's so exhausted he can't stay awake.

My question is- do I go through the horrible process that is sleep training or will this all just wear off when his teeth are through? I literally feel like I'm losing my mind, I'm constantly frustrated because he won't sleep. He never seems tired and grumpy, he just will not sleep.

Please help!

Hi coffee

This too shall pass. We went through similar experience around the year mark and it lasted a few weeks. We were like zombies for a bit but it did settle down.

We followed the approach suggested in our 'Ready Steady Toddler' guide www.readysteadytoddler.org.uk/everyday-routines/bedtime/index.aspx#wont-go-to-bed which involved a lot of coming and going from his room during the night (and therefore no sleep for him or us) but that won't work for everyone. I know friends who just brought their kids in with them so everyone would get some sleep, and that worked for them. As far as I know those kids now sleep in their own beds no problem.
