Just that really?

Official guidance will of course tell you no. However we used a sleepy head for 3/4 months and it was fine. DD was v small and cot felt too big for her, so she wouldn't settle. They are ruinously expensive though. The only thing is they are quite small, they are meant to last until 9mos but if your baby is big it won't last as long (you can get a bigger one).

What are your reasons for wanting the sleepyhead?

Littleelffriend · 10/07/2017 06:56

We used one as our dd was premature so small. As the pp said she looked too small in her cot. We then bought the next size up because she slept so well in it.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 10/07/2017 07:01

Yes we were the same, DD only 4lbs at birth.
She had her sleepy head from 4-8 months. Now just has cot bumpers and is fine (16lbs).

My 99.6th centile son lasted till 9 months in his, you just undo the clip at the bottom when they get a bit bigger. You have to leave the clip undone in the bigger one.

Thank you for all the feedback. We've ordered one. I didn't have one with my first DS but I'm really keen this time round. Can i ask a stupid question?! How did you put the sheets on the baby and sleep head? Not the bottom sheet, a sheet you would use to keep the baby warm? Did you just tuck it under the sleep head?x

We put a muslin under his head (refluxy baby) then put him in a sleeping bag. No sheets or blankets.

Alittlepotofrosie · 10/07/2017 10:58

Op don't use cot bumpers they're a sids risk.

welshweasel · 10/07/2017 11:01

Like this. Loose muslin would have been removed.

I am militant about SIDS risked and wouldn't use cot bumpers but used sleepyhead with both children

FraggleRock77 · 10/07/2017 11:22

Great thanks. Really helpful. No wouldn't touch cot bumpers. x

I covered with muslin and baby only sleeps in sleeping bag/grobag
I got one purely cos all the Mums I knew raved about them. My DD sleeps well in it but I don't know if it's the SleepyHead or not as she's been in it since day one. Will absolutely not last her til she's 9mths (even with unbuckling the bottom)

Hahaha I realise there's no muslin on it in that pic, however, I only needed to do that when back in the UK cos the weather was too crap to get it dried after washing. However, I actually live in the Middle East and as it's currently 43c then it dries in half an hour.

helenfagain · 10/07/2017 11:38

I used grobags too. Much less hassle than sheets.

teainbed · 10/07/2017 11:44

Doesn't covering it affect the breathability of the Sleepyhead? I thought the whole point was that they were a breathable bednest with the official covers only.

ExpatMrs · 10/07/2017 11:46

teainbed to be honest, if I didn't have the capacity to get mine washed and dried in one afternoon then I would have probably invested in a spare cover for that exact reason but I couldn't justify the cost for a 10day holiday

GinIsIn · 10/07/2017 11:52

The sleepyhead is breathable - if you cover it, it's no longer suitable for safe sleeping.

KnitFastDieWarm · 10/07/2017 11:57

We used it from about two months and have the toddler size one now, ds adores it! It also means he sleeps really well when travelling as it always feels and smells like his own bed. Best baby product we bought by miles!

Rabbitykins55 · 10/07/2017 11:58

I'm very anxious about SIDS too but have been using a sleepyhead since my son was three weeks, he's eight weeks now. He would only sleep being held so I was getting very little sleep. We figured that using a sleepyhead was less risk than one of us taking him in the car with next to no sleep. I also have an angel care monitor that picks up movement and breathing so was more assured using it. I don't use a bottom sheet, just tuck a blanket or muslin round and under.
