Colic tips

My poor baby has a bloated tummy and whilst she has let off some enormous farts, is still writhing and kicking her legs in discomfort. I have both gripe water and infacol, but I don't think they help that much and she seems to hate swallowing them, and sounds like she's choking when I try to use them. I've tried massaging her tummy and cycling her legs too. I'm ebf and started drinking camomile tea yesterday as I've read it can help. But what I'm wondering is if there are any other things you have tried, which have had positive results for your colicky babies. I hate seeing her in pain and I think we could both benefit from a bit more sleep at night.

How old is she, beansbananas? It's horrid seeing them apparently inconsolable. Mine were babies a long time ago but I'll chuck out some ideas and bump this for you.

I don't know whether gripe water can improve colic in babies but different babies respond to different methods, so you may have to see what works best for her.

The soothing techniques you already use are what I would have suggested - such as, gentle rocking or patting, or baby massage.

When you know she's had a good feed and her nappy's clean lay her down on you, her ear to your heartbeat and cuddle her.

Holding your baby during a crying episodecan sometimes help. Have you tried swaddling her ie wrapping her snugly in a blanket when you put her down to sleep?

My friends with colicky babies swore by a baby sling by day and in the evenings which was when the main crying bouts began, a nice rock in a vibrating baby chair seemed to help pacify them.

Darken the room for daytime naps. She doesn't want stimulation when she's stressed.

Remember your baby is not unwell, it is not your fault and afaik there is no clear evidence that colic has any long-term effects on baby’s health.

Thank you for responding... it really is upsetting to see her so uncomfortable. She is 6 weeks old, so she's likely to experience this for quite a bit longer. The evenings tend to be worse than daytime, but this could also be because it is easier to keep her upright during the day. She does seem very happy in her bouncer, so I guess a vibrating chair might help too. Thanks again!

My sympathy goes out to you, it can be a very frustrating time dealing with a baby who is colicky. A all natural remedy for colic, called baby's magic tea, saved us with a colicky baby. If you search for the tea online you can purchase it from walmart or amazon.

Have you tried dentinox? My DD is 7 weeks and had colic from birth. I tried infacol and gripe water and didn't really see a difference. I bought dentinox on Sunday and already there is such a difference. You can give it either by syringe or put it in her bottle, I find it easier putting it in her bottle.

Sorry just noticed you're bf, it comes with a syringe so easy to use i just find it very dribbly (is that a word) and sticky which is why I prefer to put it in her bottle. I hope you find a cure it really is hard going. Sometimes I can literally squeeze the wind from my DD when I massage her tummy it must be so painful for them Sad
