Things to do indoor with a 1 year old

Inspired by another thread. My 1 year old was up teething/poorly last night so our timings are completely out today and it is tipping it down so we have not been outside today. I have ordered some wellies but I am unsure how she will manage them.

So far we have sung songs and played with the instruments, played with the giant tents and tunnel and spent a lot of time putting wooden animals in and out of the bag. And too much time trying to eat cat food and shouting cat at the cat.

Some things I do with my DS (16 months):

Set up the toot toot track/treehouse. DS mainly likes to pull the track apart!

Ball pool. DS throws all the balls out while I run round and collect them and put them back in.

Mega blocks - these keep DS occupied for a while.

Play in the kitchen while I cook. DS has his "own" draw full of tuppaware that he likes to empty and put things back in. And good old hit and saucepan with a wooden spoon.

TV (although it doesn't hold his attention for longer than about 5/10 minutes)

My 13mo will do a bit of mark making with chunky crayons. Painting (strip to nappy and supervise in case of eating). Playdoh (also supervise in case of eating). Long baths. I will caveat to paint/playdoh suggestion with the fact that I probably wouldn't have done this with a 1yo were in not for the fact that she's desperate to join in with her 3yo brother. To be honest, she's just happy emptying boxes of toys/duplo and filling them back up again while I do stuff look at my phone

I used to put down a polythene dust sheet (a bit Dexter-ish) and do painting.

My greatest finds were a wipes box (don't know if you get them here, but a tissue box would work too) filled with odds and ends of fabric for them to pull out. And an empty Vanish tub, washed out and poke holes in the side. Then thread a variety of ribbons, string etc and knot them securely through opposite holes to pull back and forth. Kept both of my children occupied for ages

I love the idea of the vanish tub.

I might be brave and try painting and play doh.

Watching as I'm also up for new ideas! It feels like DD, just 1, has taken a massive leap forward recently and slightly outgrown her previous play fail safe ideas.

A pack of drinking straws to poke into the holes on a colander kept mine busy at that age. Now she likes to poke the straws and also pipe cleaners into play dough to make sculptures!
