Moving from sleeping bags to duvet

Okay, DD is now full capable of getting out of her sleeping bag, first thing in the morning she pulls at the shoulders until they unpop, wriggles out and chucks it on the floor!

I am wanting to move her from sleeping in a bag with a vest onto a pillow and duvet but have NO idea how to do it, what should she wear?
and won't she just chuck it on the floor?
Any ideas?

i want to do the same, my dd is 17 months old and is soon going to be out growing her sleeping bag, but she wriggles and writhes so much in bed that i just know she wont stay covered up. our house is ancient and really cold so i dont know what to do about it. i think i might keep her in the sleeping bag until the better weather, then just put her in her pj,s and use a duvet. hopefully if she does throw it off, it wont be cold enough to wake her up and then she can get used to having a duvet. but as nothing ever goes to plan, i will just have to hope for the best.

lizandlulu, it's times like this I wish I hadn't used grobags, although they are a godsend! I can see myself going up and downstairs numerous times to cover her back up.....

Over here in Germany they have special clips called beddeckenhalten (really!) which are a clip at one end which you attach to the duvet and a circle, a bit like those for attaching toys to pram bars, which you clip around the bars of the cot. Put on at each corner of the duvet and they'll never be able to kick it off! I got them for DD and they're great.

We put our then 16 month old into pyjamas with a duvet a couple of months ago when it was really cold - she did wriggle out of it a bit at first and we had to cover her up a few times a night but now we've found that if you tuck it in down the sides of the cot she stays mostly covered - we just pop in and cover her up when we're off to bed.

SidtheKidsMum · 22/03/2007 19:53

Scootergirl, where can I get some of those beddeckenhalten?

Scootergirl · 22/03/2007 19:56

Germany.....

I can buy a few next time I go to the baby shop if you like and post them over. They're about £4 for four, as far as I remember.

Scootergirl, that's a catchy name for a product!

I think we will go shopping for PJ's tomorrow and give it a go tucking it in, it is quite wide so that might work, she is just such a crawler/wriggler in her sleep...!

I went from sleeping bag to a fleecy sleepsuit over her PJ's. DD was a real wriggler and the duvet never stayed on her.

LostMe · 22/03/2007 20:11

We left DD in gro bag with duvet cover (no duvet) over her - she got used to it in less than a week. No more wriggling!

skidaddle · 23/03/2007 16:27

Yes I have this problem too with my dd (17 mnts). I was thinking of waiting until she went into a proper bed but is this too long? I suppose I was thinking around age 2

sophiewd · 23/03/2007 16:44

Did the same as lostme. the first few nights she wiggled and then settled down under it.

chirpygirl · 23/03/2007 17:16

I'm just worried if I leave it until she is in a bed it will be too much of a change and she'll get cold and fall out of bed!

DD1 us 15mths and moved into a toddler bed and into a duvet cover at the same time as she was tripping over and hitting her head on sides. She kicks the covers off in the night but she will also put them back on again so its only like us

Harra · 23/03/2007 18:51

John Lewis do some zip up gro bags which may be more diffucult to get out of.

UniSarah · 24/03/2007 19:36

beddeckenhalten clips sound similar to tea towel clips sold by cleaneze/ lakeland etc.
