Bathing baby

Will be bathing our newborn for the first time soon.

Just looking into bathing aids to help and trying to decide between the angelcare bath support or the Schnuggle bath.

Can anyone recommend one or the other?

We have the Angelcare, it's great. I've never worried bathing either of my two using it. So much better than a slippery newborn! I've not heard of the other one though.

Schnuggle bath is excellent, you can use it anywhere! Counter tops, floor etc.

Just looked it up and I'd still go for the angelcare if you don't mind using more water by putting them in the normal bath. I know my niece refused a normal bath until she was about 18 months because she was used to a baby bath and then didn't like the size or the high sides of a normal bath.

Angelcare bath seat used for both my babies and it really did the job.

Just use the sink in the kitchen. Perfect height, perfect size. Already in place.

We had the shnuggle and used it in the living room until DS was 10m old when he moved into the big bath. Never had a problem transferring him, and it was much easier to handle him in a small bath and for us to sit/kneel on the carpeted floor rather than bathroom tiles.

One of our better baby purchases....

We used a baby bath for a couple of months but after we took dd swimming she got used to water on her face and now she is happy to go in the shower. In fact she doesn't want to get out!

It's brilliant when she has a poo explosion too!

MinnowAndTheBear · 30/06/2017 20:15

We used the Angelcare seat and I bought a little children's step for the bathroom which I used to sit on next to the bath.

We have Schnuggle with the stand, is awesome and having the stand really saves your back!

Must admit I found the kitchen sink/washing up bowl the best way to bathe a newborn. In the sink You can hold them in the crook of your arm, dip your arm in the water and scoop water with the other hand. Using a washing up bowl makes it quite snug for baby so I felt it was safer. With Ds1 I used a baby bath and it was the hardest way, so I went back to basics!

primaryboodle · 30/06/2017 20:37

We either used the sink, a purposly purchased £1 washing up bowl or sat in the bath with her. No need for a baby bath really

Scrowy · 30/06/2017 20:57

I was one of the 'no need for a baby bath' people who washed DD in a washing up bowl/ sink until she was about 12 weeks.

Then she caught her arm on the hot tap and outgrew the washing up bowl and sink all within 10 days,

I got a schnuggle, she absolutely loves it but she is quite an independent baby who had good head control from birth.

I had a baby bath In my changing table and used it for about 6-8weeks then just put baby in big bath with about an inch of water and let him kick.
Might get a bouncer type seat this time though so they can both go in together!

Another vote for the kitchen sink. I only thought of this earlier in the week, don't ask why it never occurred to me before. I've spent 6 weeks struggling to carry the bath into the living room and then back again to be emptied. She's 7 weeks now and don't think she'll fit in for long wish I'd thought of this at the beginning as she was tiny and would have saved my back!!

Absolutely love the shnuggle. It's a great bath- quick to fill and easy to use as you tend to have both hands free. But the best thing is that it doubles as SUCH a handy little seat/space for her when empty. We've used it several times a day for over 8 months- she sits in it with a few toys and is quite happy whilst I shower or sort laundry. Or we put it in the kitchen and she sits while I prepare dinner.

Schnuggle was brilliant for us!

ChildishGambino · 02/07/2017 12:01

Sink when DD was newborn and now we have a mesh seat that goes into the main bath. Sometimes I bath with her - it's lovely
