My vision. Unrealistic??

New baby due in Aug and already have a DS nearly 4. Last time round DS was 11 weeks premature, so a difficult and often isolating experience due to risks of infection over the winter period. I'm hoping this time round to be one of those mothers who can just put the new baby in a sling and venture out/on with day to day routine. Am i being unrealistic?! Would be nice to hear some positive points about the age gap too?x

I had this age gap (well slightly less) between my first and second. It was great. DS was thrilled to have a baby in the house but was past the toddler stage himself and she was fascinated with him from the start. We went out for dinner with friends as a family almost from the day I came home from the hospital. I can remember myself and dh sitting outside a cafe having coffee with the baby between us while ds was in playschool. We started doing family things very quickly - went to the beach, went to the zoo, the playground etc. She just came along for the ride.

Hope you go to term and everything works out really well for you.

one thing I would advise is to do some batch cooking and freeze it. I did this for my second - made about 10 spag bol dinners, 10 chicken curry dinners, 10 tomato/pasta dinners and 10 chilli dinners. Stocked up on pasta and rice and we really didn't cook much for the first month or so.

Yes it's very doable. It's a really good age gap for being able to be flexible with the new baby. Obviously there will be days when you can't and when they start weaning it's a bit more tricky for a few weeks while they settle into their new routine, but generally the baby just follows wherever you go. Good luck
