crunchy wbbs - vinegar?

I've got a stash of nappies ready for my first baby, mix of new and (mostly) second hand. Now obviously the new ones (only about 4) need to be washed 2 or 3 times.. (can someone tell me which is it, 2 or 3??). But of the used ones, which presumably I really only need to wash once so I know they're clean, two bamboo ones are really crunchy. I've heard vinegar in the fabric cond. drawer should sort this out. Would it be okay to bung these in with the rest of the nappies, even though the others don't need the vinegar treatment? And do I use soap aswell or just vinegar for this softening effect?

yup, vinegar is fine for them all - you don't need soap for softening.

If you can get them out in the wind it'll help a lot too

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 15:36

3 times for max absorbancy

Maveta - you don;t need to dry them in between, just put the machine back on again.

My new ones have only been washed once - decided as probably changing pretty regularly at the start he's not going to wee through them.

I know that this has been asked before, but what kind of vinegar and how much? My wbb's are a bit 'crunchy' since I dyed them pink the other week .

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 22:28

Thats weird - mine normally go softer

White vinegar

chipmonkey · 21/03/2007 22:36

White malt vinegar, save the wine vinegar for your salads!

accessorizewithbabysick · 21/03/2007 22:46

how much in the conditioner drawer? Can I just add some with next 60 degree wash I do (using soda crystals & non-bio as well)?

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 22:48

Just "a splash" - I dunno, about a tablespoon?

And yes, just add it to your next wash

(I always forget that other people might just not buy the cheapest white vinegar )

accessorizewithbabysick · 21/03/2007 22:50

Yes, i do feel a little silly asking these questions but putting vinegar in your wash does sound a bit weird to a newbie! Don't suppose anyone has a tip on getting my lovely cream wbb's back, I tried colour remover stuff already.

NormaStanChocolateEggMuncher · 21/03/2007 22:51

A tablespoon or two - and make sure that you dont put the full amount of washing powder in - just half.

NormaStanChocolateEggMuncher · 21/03/2007 22:52

Do you have stains of fading?

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 22:54

lol - did I send the email Tues morning?

If so they were put in the post box Monday evening - unfortunately not the sorting office so they would be that bit longer. Should be with with tomorrow!!

(was meant to be done over the weekend but diseased child got in the way )

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 22:54

The stains come out with sunlight, and pretty soon your lovely cream wbbs will be snowy white!

accessorizewithbabysick · 21/03/2007 22:55

No, not stains, dp put a pair of ds1's red pants in the wash, so wbb's are a nice pink colour now.

Flamesparrow · 21/03/2007 22:59

Ooooooooooooh - sorry, completely misunderstood there I was thinking you made them girlified on purpose

If the colour run stuff hasn't worked then again I think its a case of hoping the sun fades them, or dye them a colour you choose?

NormaStanChocolateEggMuncher · 21/03/2007 23:00

Could you try washing them next time with a colour catcher sheet - they are miracle workers

accessorizewithbabysick · 22/03/2007 09:51

Thanks, I'll see if I can find a colour catcher sheet or maybe dye them if that doesn't work. I wouldn't mind so much, it's just I have a ds and not a dd & I feel a bit silly putting him in pink nappies
