They have got in touch with me about my 16 year old ds.
Apparently he was in touch with a 12 year old girl on social media.
He said she wouldn't leave him alone so he deliberately acted off with her to get rid of her.
He said he cant remember what was said exactly but that he argued with her and that she said she was 14.
They want him to come and have a interview shortly to speak to him.
I am concerned and my son is worrying about it.
Has anybody any experience with this sort of thing.

I think your son needs to understand how serious this could potentially be. Can you talk to him in a calm manner and explain you are trying to help him but will need his cooperation to do so?
I would be concerned that child protection are involved as there are suspicions of a sexual nature as opposed to harassment and any sexual contact with an under 13 is illegal, regardless of if they have consented as they are not deemed legally old enough to give consent.
Tell him you can't help him unless you know the full facts and that the police can find them anyway so better to know at this stage. He is bound to be terrified.
