Babywearers-Which soft carrier is your fave?

I desperately want one of these soft carriers so I can carry DS on my back, and chuck out the framed one I am using at the mo (keep knocking things over as its huge and I'm not!!) There seem to be so many and as they are quite expensive I don't want to get the "wrong" one! Can anyone give me any words of advice about them?

i like my moby wrap but i think some people find them too stretchy for older children. i just tie it really tight then washit every couple of uses to tighten it back up again.

Get an ergo carrier! I constantly bore all my friends about how great they are, best money I ever spent, blah blah blah. Can go on front or back. They cost about £50 I think.

Ooh, will be watching this thread. Used a baby bjorn with DD but it only lasts a few months before too uncomfortable. This time round I'd like one that lasts a bit longer and that can go on your back as well as front. Any more suggestions?

I have a wrap and love it for when we are out and about but as I've only got short arms I need to wear him on my back for when I have to do housework! I know you can put them on your back in a wrap but I don't fancy it on my own!

Jammy dodger the ergo was one of those I was considering, is it easy to get them on (DS is a wiggler and don't want to drop him!!) and what size/age do they go up to? Also are they the same as the Patapum carriers as I have seen one of those for sale second hand?

MuminFife just checked out the photo, I have a Storch which looks similar to yours and I do love it for out and about but not around the house. Can you do all those complicated looking back carries with yours?

I'm another fan of the Ergo carrier. An absolute godsend; really comfy and portable and brilliant for holidays.

FromGirders · 20/03/2007 20:18

I've got a babytrekker (www.babytrekker.com). It's fab - have used it since dd was newborn (on the front) she's now 2y4mo and is still in it a few times a week, no probs. Have also carried ds in it when he was past 3. Very easy to use once you get the hang of it, very comfy, can go on front or back and most importantly, very secure. I wish I'd had the confidence to go with a piece of fabric tied in a traditional way, but had no-one to help with any experience, so used a ring-sling hammock-wise and to sit dc's on my hip, but that's as experimental as I managed.

FromGirders · 20/03/2007 20:23

Just googled the ergo carrier - mine looks quite a lot like that except it's a bit less structured and comes as one thing, you don't need any accessories - might be worth comparing the two. The babytrekker can also be folded up into it's own integral pocket so it's great to stick under the pram if you've got two kids and want to avoid a double buggy.
Will stop promoting now, feel like they ought ot give me commission!

sparkymummy · 20/03/2007 20:28

Thanks FG, it looks good that one, where did you get it from?

You can hire loads of different types of slings including the Ergo for 2 weeks (£10) from Bigmamaslings.co.uk

I have just rented a babyhawk mei tai to carry my 10month old, it came today so I will be wearing him tomorrow!!!

fizzylemonade · 20/03/2007 21:18

forgot to say they are under the soft carriers -scroll down a bit all the tied ones are at the top!
